The copier does not support NTLMv2, which is the native SMB/CIFS protocol for Server 2008 and newer. The server will have to either be configured to allow for NTLMv1 connections only, or the customer will need to upgrade the machine.

Some of my customers have set up a virtual 2003 server for issues like this, or set up an XP workstation as a scan server.

In general, you should update all, because updating only a part of firmware can lead to unexpected problems.

As rthonpm said, the version of NTLM this version of Windows uses is too new for the 2045. I don't think ANY firmware update will assist you. You will need to get the customer's IT to sort this one out, there's not much more you can do.
