Incidentally, I only know because somebody else on this very page passed on this golden ticket of wonder.

Knowledge is power, Llama, real power. I refrained from responding in the other threads because I didn't feel passing on such a nugget was deserved. I believe one has to give to get...

Someone changed the passwords, find that "someone" and ask him to give you the password, problem solved.

Re: MPc3500 can not login to admin or supervisor

One time, in band camp, someone changed my passwords.

Be afraid, Zed, you shared that power and you're now worthless to me. One dark night...

Speaking of which, you know in Star Wars Episode IV, A New Hope, the original and best one, (well, not the best film, Empire was a much better film, but at the time AKH was just groundbreaking and changed cinema forever,) when Obi Wan Kenobi says, "You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine." Well, that was a bit of an empty threat really, wasn't it? Throughout Empire and Jedi, Ben pops up every now and again, largely as a proud uncle type character as Luke's progressing, but he can't really do much at all, can he?

          I'm just sayin'...

                    New user here,

Thanks for the info Steve. It saved me a lot of time and frustration.

He stated factory mode, so I'm guessing that's why. I'll have to check into this further, it's news to me if it can be done this way.

FYI, for those that are familiar with the method of resetting the credentials using the hex editor on the nvram file, I found that I can just copy the supervisor section from another machines nvram that hasn't been changed and just paste it over the one that has. It appears to be universal between models, but I've only done it twice. Doing it this way there is less chance of screwing up the process of deleting special characters and pasting in the correct number of periods.

Yes. it is a factory SP, so you won't see it in the manual, and I was surprised myself to see it posted in the forum, but he didn't include the access sequence, so I suppose it's not too big a deal. It's a very quick and easy solution to wipe the address book, and reset all passwords to defaults, and applies to any of the MP series (at least) to the best of my knowledge. I've done it dozens of times

This SP code worked like a charm. On the machine I had in my shop (MPc4000) the customer had changed all passwords and didn't remember what they were.

This will be a very fast, easy, free way to clear those passwords in the event another overzealous IT wants to change all the passwords and quit. I'm sure that's happened to all of us at some point

Yes, its true. There are lots of undocumented SPs in 'Factory Mode' with this being one of the most useful I've ever encountered.

Does this method change/reset any other settings, such as custom programs, file type for scanner, etc.?
