    MPC4500 - Toner undetectable ??????

    Dear Friends,
I have a Ricoh Color MPC4500 which shows "undetectable" in the Systen Status although i have just replaced a new toner cartriage. There is also a sign which shows " Independant - toner cartriage is set" which appears on the touch screen. However, the toner cartriage will stilll turn when the machine is printing. Appreciate your speedy reply.
    Thanks in advance. Cheers.

when you fit a used toner cartridge the "indepandent toner cartridge" message will appear on your screen. verify if you are using an original and new cartridge

Toner pump's gone more than likely, especially if the bottle's still turning.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

if it is asking for tone than it will be blocked pipe or failed pump
independant toner message will not stop the copier from working

To get rid of the 'independant - toner cartriage is set' message.

What most likely happened is that the toner bottle was inserted previously and removed. Then another bottle was inserted, removed and the first bottle reinserted. Because the rfid chip in the bottle end was previously read and written to, the machine does not recognize it as genuine now. It will still work until it totally runs out (they won't get a 'low toner' message), just advise the customer of the reason and once a new, unused bottle is inserted, it will be back to normal. You can disable the message as previously mentioned, just be sure to re enable it once it is sorted out.
That being said, what may have been the reason for a bottle to be removed and replaced? I have had this occur a few times due to a toner pump failure, the display then says 'add toner' and the customer removes the good bottle and puts in another new one. Since the 'add toner' condition won't go away they will generally call for service (or add a third bottle before calling!). Once I correct the problem, I advise them of continuing usage of the previously inserted bottles and let it go.

                  TeeBee,

I started on Ricoh products in 1982 and I got my first training on FT4700 from Ricoh Japan. I had come across many Ricoh expert but you are different as , your explanation to the problems are very clear. Cheers

Dear Friend: i have a ricoh mpc 4502 that's saying Toner undetectable and Independant - toner cartriage is set" i tried changing the black toner pump, put a used toner bottle in and check the developer unit,
i would try putting in a brand new oem toner cartridge first, and then changing the developer unit. it worked on a mpc 3002 that said the same thing. i going to order a brand new toner o.e.m toner bottle i will
                      check back with the results.

Putting a used toner cartridge in will cause "Independent - toner cartridge is set" message. Very often it will not clear when a "new" bottle even if it is Genuine Ricoh. Better hope that the birth certificate is still available as you might have to clear engine memory.

Wander if the thread starters skeleton is still laying next to that MPC4500.
