The first thing about the instructions that looks wrong on the screen shot of the Copier operation panel under Tools =>Systems Settings=>File Transfer=>SMTP Server I am suppose to have a "Use Secure Connection (SSL) On or Off option which does not apperar on this screen on my MP C4000 (all firmware is up to date).

Re: scan to gmail from ricoh
Try this one. Haven't used it myself, but I've been told it works.
EDIT: Sorry, didn't read all of your post at first, so I'm not sure if this will help you, but since I don't have an MPC4000 at hand, that's all I can suggest for now. Sorry.Attached Files' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'

Ping the server and use the IP it gives you. That usually sorts silly problems out. It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.Comment

Check out stunnel.org and read this doc. We have been giving it to our customers who have non-SSL machines and are upgrading to or otherwise now using SSL enabled email servers.

Re: scan to gmail from ricoh
The 1st models I know of to support SSL are the newer c300 & c5501.
If you do a search there are posts about gmail workarounds. Basically changing the SMTP server to aspmx.l.google.com on port 25 (note that is not SSL) and changing the account settings to "Don't always use https".Comment

Re: scan to gmail from ricoh
I had trouble downloading the Site Certificate because it would not show up as in the last step shown in the instructions (thank you for those!) Do you have to be Ricoh tech for them to send it to you?Comment
