Richo Scanrouter V2 "Launching of the scanner driver "

Afternoon guys! Got a bit of a problem I have been working on and wanted to get your opinion.

We currently have 2 old Richo MFP and 2 new Richo MFP. I found we were unable to use Scanrouter with our new ones but ever since today we are having issues with our two old printers with Scanrouter.

It seems to be crashing on us with a Visual C++ Runtime Error.
    10-19-2011 2-53-05 PM.jpg

And in Scanrouter we get the following error: "Launching of the scanner driver has failed." The error repeats every 1 second and the only way to keep documents moving is to start services and it will then crash a few minuites later.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I have tried restarting the following services:
DDS Scheduler Daemon, ScanRouterDriverV2, Ridoc Information Service, SOption

I have also attached the following image:

    From the event logs:

The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event:

Have you tried rebooting the PC that has scanrouter loaded on it? Start with that. Next, what software has been added to this PC in the last few days(software, windows updates, virus software, etc)? If it has had additional software added it could have an impact on scanrouter. If none of that helps you'll likely have to call your service provider to help you out with the issue.

cobiray, Scanrouter is not officially supported any more Richo only offers SmartDevice for Admin. I have looked around and found someone who had a similar issue but the solution was unrelated.

I would love to reboot it but that is not a option right now as the pc is in production, no new software has been added to it the only thing that has changed was a unplanned BSOD.

No software has been installed on this host recently.

I just did a fresh install of ScanRouter on a virtual machine and pointed it to the distro server I have. It also has the same issues, with the logs repeating ever 1 second. So the issue is not with the scanrouter install then. Does anyone have any insight as to how this is happening?

Try disabling any firewall (Windows or otherwise) and disabling all virus software for testing. What OS are you running? I know it was never supported with Vista or Win7.

You can give this a try

That being said, on install you should have set it up to run in service mode. Also, try turning off any firewall and antivirus to test connection (pretty common, generally you will need to add an exception for the mfp). If you need to uninstall, it's not entirely as straightforward as selecting uninstall. Here is a procedure to fully uninstall (though I've never messed with the registry when I've done it)......

ScanRouter V2 Lite Manual Program Removal Procedure
          Details
I'm at a point where ScanRouter will not uninstall or reinstall. Scan Router is looking for a distutil.dll file. What can be done?
Answer The following removal procedure will delete a certain registry entry and folders created by ScanRouter to allow re-install.
IMPORTANT! Please backup entire Windows registry and proceed with extreme caution.

          1. Suspend ScanRouter services by using one of the following 3 methods:
-Launch ScanRouter V2 Administration Utility, select server, then select suspend services. Close ScanRouter administrator utility.
-Go to start button/programs/startup folder to delete the delivery server shortcut. Once shortcut is deleted, restart PC and move on to step 3.
-Disable all ScanRouter services called DDS Scheduler Daemon, ScanRouterDriverV2, Ridoc Information Service, SOption, and POption. Right click on each service, select properties, then change setting from automatic to disabled.

          2. Delete the RDS folder located under Program Files and RDCAB folder located under the root directory usually c:\rdcab. Caution! Both RDS and RDCAB folders are used by both ScanRouter and DeskTopBinder, so skip this step if DeskTopBinder program and data are still needed.

          3. Launch Windows registry to edit the following key location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{387D6CC5-6D6C-4BA0-8EAF-955813BFC5D8} Caution! Make sure "DisplayName" value equal to "ScanRouter V2 Lite" before deleting. The ScanRouter V2 Lite installation ID is in red. If you cannot find the installation ID {387D6CC5-6D6C-4BA0-8EAF-955813BFC5D8}, please locate a similar installation ID which must have a "DisplayName" value equal to "ScanRouter V2 Lite". .
Once the "Display Name" is equal to "ScanRouter V2 Lite" delete it.
Notes: This procedure works for software installed as either "Launch at Startup" or "Run in service mode". Users who isntalled ScanRouter as "Launch from Program Folder" can skip step 1. The procedure is the same for all operation systems. If needed, reinstall ScanRouter V2 Lite.
          Whole thread here.

My professional suggestion is to ditch the scanrouter and move to scan to email. There is no software needed to run it unless you've got SSL enabled email servers, but there's a work around for that too.

Scan to email is nice; but I dont need to be expanding my Exchange servers DB for no reason.

There has to be a solution for this.

Being able to scan from the MFP seems like a reason to change to S-t-E, but that's only my opinion. If you can't get Scanrouter working again your only other options are new MFP's or to eliminate the scanning on these units.

Have you tried the recommendations from the other post unsuccessfully?

Re: Richo Scanrouter V2 "Launching of the scanner driver "

Yes I had found that already prior to posting this thread. I had attempted that.

I have however come up with a work around.

Basically the old MFP don't allow Import/Export of .UDF and Scanrouter is so broken that it can export the list. I connected to the old MFP using Smart Device Monitor and exported as .CSV the CSV's differ though so I had to do some footwork to get the new MFP CSV to match up with the old MFP's CSV.

After that I put the new CSV together and imported to the new MFP. Saved as CSV (in the new format) and UDF.

This way when I add a new user I just update one old printer. Then modify the CSV and re import to the new ones. Voilia no more scan router.

What are the models of your newer machines? They may already be equipped to use SMB scanning, no scanrouter required.
