[CQ] Ricoh FW760 Wide Format toner streaking, ghosting, etc.

    First Copy.JPGSecond Copy.JPGThird Copy.JPG
I just purchased a used FW760 with a meter of 76,170. The seller assured me that the image quality was clear and ran one test print to prove it. The test print was of a good quality with no streaking or ghosting. During the move the toner cartridge leaked and prevented the machine from starting. I removed the power switch and vacuumed it and the cover sensor switch above it. The copier started right up. I ran the first copy and it was splotched with light areas. I replaced the toner tube with a new one. Ran a copy which was very dark. I vacuumed the toner tray clean and ran another copy (see First Copy on left attached). This copy was legible but had a lot of ghosting and some light toner streaks. The second copy (middle attached) had more ghosting and way more toner streaks. The third copy (right attached) was even worse. I ran 10 copies with each one getting progressively worse. Does anyone know what the problem is? I have a spare drum from my other machine that is in fair condition (clear with one toner streak present on all copies). I would like to know if you think it is wise to call a tech to repair this machine or just call it a loss. I paid $450 for this machine which was a "bargain". I have a feeling that I was taken for a ride. The seller insists that the machine worked flawlessly for him and that something happened to it in transit. I am in Orange County, NY if someone out there knows of a reputable local tech, please let me know. Thanks!

I would say it's either the drum cleaning blade or the corona wires.

Unfortunately AO machines don't like being moved.
We normally take the toner tube and dev unit out when we have to move one.

I'm not sure of the location on these older units, but the newer wide format machines have a release lever on the bottom right side of the drum. This moves the cleaning blade away from the drum for transport so as not to cause any damage during transport. If this model has that lever, try pushing it to the other direction to see if the drum then begins to clean. By the look of the images this may be your problem. If that is not the case, you can try to clean the cleaning blade of any buildup in these locations. You will see toner buildup where the marks are on the page. You can try cleaning it with a soft, lint free cloth. Also check the cleaning blade itself. If it looks yellow and old and is too brittle, it will likely need replaced in a short time.

I'm getting in on this one a little late as i just returned from vacation but I'll still comment on your problem, hopefully you have it fixed. On the wide format machines when they are a low usage machine the cleaning blade does go bad regularly and with no warning other than what you see on the print you sent. There is a chance you dumped toner all over to cause the problem but not likely. A cleaning blade on that machine will run you about $200 and is worth it if that is all that is wrong. the price you paid is not a bad price as I purchase and resell these all the time for around that price.

Thank you for your assistance. Unfortunately you are not posting too late as I have been too busy to look at the drum. Assuming it is the toner blade do you have any idea where I can buy one?
