    Ricoh 2060 toner recycling coil

    Hi Guys,

I have had this issue with this type of machine a few times now and there seems to be a hit and miss fix.

The problem is that the two helical gears that mesh (pcu to waste pipe) seem to jump, i have replaced all the pipe and bushings and the two helical gears, spacers and spiral, but still they jump when first starting to drive.

The only way to stop them jumping was to grease the inside of the pipe(where the bushing is) and that seems ok (well it did this morning)

I was going to order the whole waste pipe assy from the mp500 but it maybe slightly different.

Any suggestions, as on some machines i never get the issue, others it keeps coming back!!

There is an RTB (14) about bad waste toner transport. Replace the Waste Toner Vertical Transport Unit (B065 3554).

I use to replace parts one by one at recycling tube: bearing ,two washers and a "foam washer", auger and finally the tubes (they become scratched inside from the auger).
To my opinion, it has nothing to do with the Wasted toner vertical transport...

        Replace the lower PCU assy.

I've had some luck with putting a shim on the end of the shaft to ensure a tighter mesh on the gears.

The problem is probably in the coil that runs behind the recovery blade. If you disconnect those two gears you can turn the shafts independently and test them.

Watching it turn it looks like the gear on the cleaning spiral (helical) is trying to go away from the gear thats driving it (upwards). Then it skips its drive, i have also enlarged the holes before on the actual pipe itself to allow a closer mesh (not this time), but that should not have to be done on a new pipe with gears and bushings surely!!! (terrible design as it can damage the collection coil behind the cleaning blade)

i have replaced all parts (gears, bushings, pipe) and the damned thing still makes noise. I have a colleague who heats the pipe and gives it a slight bend for the gears to mesh better. I recently tried loosening the screw just above the gears holding that holds the pipe, bend the pipe so the gears mesh better and give the screw a good tighten. seems to be working so far.

That's pretty much what I do to sure the fault, before tightening the bottom screw nearest the gears hold the pipe in mesh and tighten. Sometimes on high mileage boxes the bushings can go a bit out of round causing the gears to skip (on the brass bushing for the PCU gear as well as the pipe gear) and sometimes I've cut shims out of service stickers to adjust the pipe position for a better mesh.

I had the same issue the other day and also had trouble stopping the noise. I removed the tube and trimmed off the small peg on the section nearest the gear rather than filing out the holes. This allowed me to rotate the tube slightly anti-clockwise about the screw nearest the gear, this moved the gears closer together and the noise was gone. This was an old tube and the bushing next to the gear was worn, fitting a new tube in the next few days. It will be interesting to see if the noise returns.
