    Mpc 4500 Sc 491

    Hey,

I worked on an MPC 4500 with an SC 491 code in the SMC Data sheet back in December "12th.. I think" I went back to this machine again and now the error message is displaying on the screen... I spoke to a Specialist the last time I saw it and he suggested that low toner could be the problem. Sure enough the first time I saw it, Cyan was low, this time Magenta was low. Unfortunalty when I visited the machine, on both occasions, I couldn't get the problem to replicate... If anyone's seen it and cured this mysterious fault your advice would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks,

    Sarge

Haven't seen it before, but here's what the manual says...

High voltage power: Drum/ development bias output error
An error signal is detected for 0.2 seconds when charging the drum or
    development.

    􀂃 High voltage leak
    􀂃 Broken harness
􀂃 Defective drum unit or development unit
􀂃 Defective high voltage supply unit

    1. Check or replace the harness.
    2. Replace the drum unit or paper transfer unit.
    3. Replace the high voltage supply unit.
Don't take that toner with me!

When were the pcu units pmed or serviced?

I have had one where the cyan unit after having been serviced by another engineer the unit was not quite put back together correctly, and the two other colours M and Y needed the pcus replacing as well.

These machines keep on going and the customer will not notice many copy quality problems but you may need to simply service the units if the dev is shot or the PCU way over its life.
