    MPC 3500 with SC491

    Hi All,

we have a unit MPC 3500 have error code SC491 recently. all parts not change yet. refer to SM and try to fit it but not successful. will exchange the ITB Unit & Paper Charge Unit to other MPC 3500 to find out which unit got problem.

anyone have this SC491 with Ricoh color copier and any solutions.

    Thank .

Might also be a drum unit. but I would try the paper transfer roller first.

I want to write for everyone where the SC491 error comes from, because I have met it several times myself (on my own MP C4500, that is the same), and it has been fixed in different ways.

We will do it from simple to complex:
        1) Once the SC491 error occurred due to the fact that the device is not grounded. I connected the ground connection - the error disappeared.
        2) The SC491 error always occurs when the contact at the back of the developer's unit is dirty (that is visible through a hole), or the spring inside the printer, resting against this contact, is dirty. Check all four blocks by taking out and looking at the shiny contact from behind, and look at the springs inside the printer. Just toner on any of these contacts leads to error SC491. I met it after quick repairing drum unit without good cleaning.
        3) It is written that if the drum is worn out to a bare contact, you need to wind a thin tape in this place as the drum turns and check whether the error will go away. I didn't get to that myself.
        4) I consider the malfunction of the high voltage unit (the only one described in the service manual) to be the most unrealistic. At the very least, you can check the mains voltage in the room, and I'm sure that if the voltage is weak, and besides, the room is humid, SC491 will occur just like that. A wet and cold room (as in my case, especially if it rains) also leads to failures of the high-voltage network inside the printer, because wet air conducts electrisity. It sounds funny, but it is true.

I've just fired up the DeLorean and I'm delivering that message back to 2011! They're gonna be so happy!

I'm happy he posted this too. I'll put it in the storage banks for the time in the future when this code comes up. I'll take the DeLorean back here to refresh my memory.
