    B2969640

Another call today and another bag of B2969640 goes in with less than 100k. I've been a tech for a while and take most problems in stride but this just makes my blood boil. From the 1st copier I worked on that took B2969640 until today I have never seen it go anywhere near the 160k it is rated for, and they must have been smoking crack when they wrote the D009 info - 260k ? Really, Ricoh, REALLY?
I guess 100k is better than the 10-20k it was when it 1st came out but am I the only one who wants to launch a class action lawsuit v Ricoh for still selling this crappy stuff?

Make sure when you replace the developer that you are also cleaning the toner build-up off the mag roller (down to the bare metal) and the gap between the dev roller and doctor blade. This will extend the life between developer changes a bit, but don't expect a miracle...

Also be sure you are using ONLY the new toner. The original compound had too much wax and the heat in the dv unit melted it and caused the coating on the mag.
The 35 and 45s have always had the problem whereby the machine had to be kept clean or it would turn on you like a wounded kangaroo.

if you have to option of doing so, change the toner bottle motor for one from a 2045/3045 and completely vac out the dev unit, toner hopper and pcu cleaning unit. Replace the dev with the old B0799640 remove all MP4500/5000 toner from the customer's site and only supply them with 2045/3045 toner from then on.

From what I hear it works a charm, no more mag roller filming, background midway through runs and SC304.... in fact it works as well as a 3045... who'd have thunk it eh?

Cleaning out the PCU auger assy (on top of the PCU under the handle) is something I've only been doing recently...it was something I'd always missed til reading a recent bulletin from Ricoh.
I went to an MP3500 this week with backgrounding....replaced drum, developer, charge roller, cleaned out the auger assy, scrubbed the mag roller(and found it badly gouged but holding enough of a brush that it lasted well til I replaced it yesterday) and this machine responded like a champion.
You really have to keep the suckers clean and be pedantic during the PM's for them to be happy but no...sadly they still never seem to last as long as they should..but they ARE responding better to pm's than they used to.

We do that too... what a blessing for both us and the clients. The ones we can't do that too(Ricoh accounts) i feel sorry for. It does seem like if they are run at a high volume, they tend to last longer in between backgroundings. The lower volume ones, lucky to get 50K out of them even with the new style toner and cleaning the mag roller.

Does this work for just the MP3500 series or can you do it on the MP4000, and 4001 series as well?

                Re: B2969640

The MP3500 was the first one subjected to the new toner so yes, it can be included in the mod. We dont really see the problem much anymore. All of our machines have new developers and are using the new, new toner. On some, in addtion to the developer units, we had to replace the pcu also.
I didnt want some of the new models using the old B264 and some new models using the new B296. It causes the shipping dept to send the wrong toner sometimes. Ricoh seems to have solved the problem by changing the toner formulation so now if an MP4500 or MP4001 customer calls for toner they know what to ship without consulting another list.
                part of the KISS solution.
