Ricoh MP3350 tray 1 feed problem

Have a Ricoh MP3350 with a tray 1 misfeed problem only when the tray is more than half full or full.
Paper is loaded with 8.5x11 so it feeds long edge first. When tray 1 is full and tries to feed, the machine
indicates a jam. When you go to clear it, there is no actual jam anywhere. I can jump the interlocks
and watch tray 1's feed tire turn, but never picks up the sheet to feed. What I've done is
replaced with OEM parts; the feed tire and sep pad, feed clutch, & elevator lift gear box.

Have tried to adjust SP mode 1908 for the lift motor forward run time for tray 1's pressure plate.
Not sure if I'm doing correctly, can anybody advise???

I've gone to the following locations in SP 1908 and have tried increasing in the positive direction with no success:
    5) A4Y, LTY 100% (default -150)
    6) A4Y, LTY 70% (default -150)
    7) A4Y, LTY 30% (default -150)
    8) A4Y, LTY 10% (default -200)

    36) A4Y, LTY 100%-70% (default 0)
    37) A4Y, LTY 70%-30% (default 0)
    38) A4Y, LTY 30%-10% (default -50)

Have gone as high as 1200 in the positive direction in the settings with no change. Also have gone in the
negative direction as high as -800 with no change. Makes me think I'm not either doing the right paper tray size
or not changing settings correctly. Anybody run into this out there?????

    Hi there
This is a common problem with these since many years back..The lift spring back somehow gets bad so you need to replace it or shorten it so the tension get harder...good luck

What do you mean by " elevator lift gear box ". Usually when I have this problem I change the rising unit D010 2780. The white plastic coupling cracks and causes the paper to not lift all the way to the feed roller. Is this what you changed?

D010 2771 Tension spring...that is what u have to replace or fix...(make it shorter to get more force to lift the tray)

Set all the trays to auto detect the paper size. Set the side and end fences as if A4 LEF were loaded in the tray. If the LCD paper select button for tray 1 says A5 instead of A4, the side fence position sensor in the back of the machine has been knocked out on one side. Clip it back in if it has and you should be sorted. Failing that, go for the lift spring as previously mentioned.

          Hit it.

Reset all those settings back to defaults, and re-install the rear sensor on the tray.

I've never had to shorten a spring in a tray on these; I've replaced one because it broke, but never shortened. I think it's just a band-aid to the real fix. Simply re-install the sensor that has popped out due to excessive force in closing the tray. The attached service bulletin will show you what needs to be done. Buy the little plastic sheets that go on the bracket to permanently hold the sensor in place.

Thanks for the advice you were absolutely right the side fence sensor was partially detached and re-connecting it properly and securing it corrected the problem.

Just a note but when you run across this problem and its not the sensor it will be the tension spring in the back, we actually add a second spring thats about 2 1/2 inches long that attaches to the primary lift spring so that it has more tension when it is stretched, if we dont have that handy at the time we use a zip tie and tie off about an inch or so of the primary spring so it has more tension. The rear sensor is in the TSBs for being knocked out of place and there is a mylar that is supposed to be installed to keep that from happening, although i have never had to install the mylar.

Thanks for the input, but have already corrected problem by re-positioning the fence guide sensor and securing it.

Another possible fix for this issue is to unplug all of the size sensors and to manually set the paper size in User Tools. The drawback is that you will get jams and other issues if a user changes the paper size or orientation, but for the most part whatever is in the tray is what people put back into it. I've used this quite a bit in factories and other dirty environments where the interrupters just get coated.

My fix is superglue that sensor on the bracket, never had the problem again after that.

                        Hi there!
Last week 3 machines with such a problem: the moving parts were the back-fence is mounted to. Build them out, clean the whole area & oiled the parts where movement is. After that the jams were gone.
                        Greetings...

Glue the tray switch at the back of the machine. Then file a 45 deg angle downward on the plastic actuator tab on the tray itself.
