    MP 6500 / Low Density

MP6500 - 2.6 million copies - Drum & Developer have less than 100k - very low density - copies appear 'grayish', faded - unable to achieve solid black fill on test pattern. All ID readings within spec. - mimics worn/fatigued developer.

    Suggestions appreciated.

There is fairly recent RTB about cleaning the dev roller doctor blade (which I now do every time I do a dev change on this model range) and checking and changing some SP settings based on the coverage.

    Check it out.

[EDIT] Now that think about it I have also seen light prints caused by a weak / failing laser diode as well.

Was the corona wire and grid replaced when the drum was? If your not getting proper charge on the drum, the toner is not going to stick to it as densely as is needed to.

I would assume the corona was replaced on its last pm, I have however replaced coronas at half a pm before, also on this machine make sure one to clean the mag roller when the dev is changed, ricoh suggests using a brass brush on them, also I have by accident not had the dev unit pushed in place all the way so it wasnt making close enough contact to the drum to get toner on it with that though you would normally be missing entire areas not just a fade. Also make sure to clean the Slit glass from any toner and dust. I would replace the corona and clean the mag roller and see if that helps first.
