    Ricoh 2075 - hash marks on copy/scans

    Strange one here, see the attached files. Copies or scans put 2 distinct marks on pages, almost 1" long, prints are fine. Cleaned CCD face and optics...marks get darker when density of scan is increased, otherwise are pretty light but noticeable. 2 faint lines, side by side, 1mm apart.
    When running letter R sometimes the image will only leave 1 mark, but reverts back to the 2 marks on standard letter.

      Is that through the ADF or platen or both. Since the line are are only in the printable area and not the erase margin I am guessing you have some fuzz or dust in the optics somewhere since its pretty faint and doesnt go all the way across the page I would have to guess thats on the platen glass the adf glass would normally scan the line all the way across the page and so would the mirrors usually but could be just light enough to pick up the image partially. If its both on the adf and platen then its probably mirrors or lens cover if its only 1 or the other i would check that actual glass covers for dust or debris.

      Also clean the laser slit glass just to cover your bases.

          They look about the width of a hot roller stripper. Doesn't explain why it's only showing on copies tho. PCU been serviced recently? Mag roller clean?
          It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

              Clean optics, new fuser rollers, happens on ADF scan or off the glass. New drum entrance seal and cleaning blade. Don't think it is caused by fuzz or lint or laser slit glass, seems to be electrical defect (memory, HDD, CCD, etc.). The defect is identical from one page to the next, like a stamp being imposed on the image. Again, this is not generated on prints - only when using the optics, wish I had a way to zoom it and post a better sample.

                  Only thing coming to mind at the moment is there anything on the white plate, or anything in the background/underside of ADF that the scanner is reflecting back through the paper. Besides your typical dust, straight mirrors, clean backdrop, exposure lamp clean and ok, and white plate clean, thats about all i got, unless its a more serious issue. If prints are fine its got to be in the scanner.

                  I don't know if it will help to diagnose but I know sometimes scanning to the PC can give more detail image. I had a machine with dirty mirrors that when copying you couldn't see any lines but a scanned image showed a nice clear dark horizontal line, it was just dust but for some reason the scanned to pc image showed the marks way better then the copied image, it may help to look at a scanned image to see if the lines are the same, worse, or better. Sorry its not much help.

                      Thanks for the comments, we'll take a look at the optics again. Scans to PC show the same image defect, no marks on white plate or ADF.
