Loosen the screw on the front that holds the scanner unit to the engine.
Lift up on the front left edge and tighten the screw.
It it was in STORAGE, there was most likely something else stacked on top.
Same as 1045.
To check this, take the screw out and make a copy.
I have seen the 3045's have the same problem, because a large operator used to lean on the left of the machine every time he made a copy.
After a while it warped and gave the same symptom in your image.
Thank you, friend. I will check it again and give you update regarding the problem.
x2
Or, to test, just grab the scanner under the left corner, lift, hold and press the print button. this should make the fault clear. release and the fault returns.

Good luck.

Where is the arrowed edge of that original. at the left scale or operator or non-operator side of the platen?
the arrowed side of the original is in the non-operator side of the platen.DF copying has no problem.Only when the original is being scanned in the platen glass, the shadow appears. This problem occurs only when the client put the machine in their stockroom and kept it there for sometime. At that time, there was renovation going on in their office so the machine was left unused in their stockroom. When the renovation was finished, the client called us up to reinstall the machine.
Haven't seen that on a 2045 'cos they beefed the frame up, but it looks like the problem we had with the 1045 when somebody had lent on the corner of the ops panel and twisted the whole scanner box out of square.
Check to see if the mirrors are all clicked into their mountings properly and the first and second scanners are sitting evenly on their nylon pads they slide on.
Shadow appears only when you scan the original in the platen glass. When you close the document feeder, a black shadow is very visible in the output. When you place the original without covering it, the shadow is not recognizable.
That's indeed some strange behaviour
Having a chance to see a quality scan of the symptome might be helpful to think along here plus the information requested by Jomama.
Copying while keeping the DF open might lead to a different copy/brightness setting selected by the ACS - might supress the symptome. Another thing I can see is some sort of streaking across the running direction so is it really a shadows or more some kind of digital-appearing artefact?
trial & error tips:
- what happens if you play a little with different copy qiality/brightness settings?
- printout the non-default SMC page and compare the scanner-related SP with the factory sheet in the front door
- print all SMC lists, backup the NV ram data, perform an engine reset - anything better/worse?
Photo0049.jpgGuys, I have problem in Aficio 2045 while photocopying.Shadow appears only when you scan the original in the platen glass. When you close the document feeder, a black shadow is very visible in the output. When you place the original without covering it, the shadow is not recognizable. I checked the scanner unit and it is aligned properly. I attached the sample copy for your analysis.
