Re: how to update firmware ?

In your first thread, you needed the firmware urgently, and for several different models, and some very kind person has provided it to you, and now you don't know what to do with it?
    Really?
It took me less time to search, and find the free and complete service manual, for the Aficio 3030 online, than it has to write this response.

If you don't know how to update the firmware, then you shouldn't be doing it. Your name fits you.

You have to get it on the hard drive. Usually through a cable hooked up to a laptop. Not familiar very much with Ricoh stuff.

It would be great if the machines could go through the net and ping the manufacturers site for a firmware update. Kind of like how my dvd burner drives are although I have to actually download them...really simple and easy though.

That would be a good idea, but Ricoh has some pretty big government customers. Imagine the shock on a network admin's face when the machine started to accept incoming connections! Mainly firmware is there for very specific conditions and is often reliant on a different module being of a certain level.

HP had the ability to do this with some of their models but the entire process had to be redone when it was discovered that with a little certificate spoofing you could install malicious firmware.

Create folder B209 on SD card and put firmware there.5.2 FIRMWARE UPDATE
The procedure is the same for all firmware modules.
NOTE: If you will change scanner firmware, print 5-990-22 and -23 (SMC reports
for scanner settings) before you start this procedure.
                      1. Turn off the main power switch.
                      2. Remove the SD card slot cover (􀀎 x 2).
                      3. Insert the SD card [B]

                        1. Turn off the m.........................
The root folder must be called "ROMDATA", inside that folder you will place the firmware. If you have several different models to put put on the SD card then you can create subfolders for each (B209, B132, etc.). Otherwise you can load all of it in the romdata folder.

Dude, you really need to get a manual and follow the procedure outlined in the service tables. You can brick your controller if you don't do it right.
