    Machine not waking up MPc4500

    Morning all

We have a Mpc4500 in the field which doesn't want to wake up from sleep mode, or hangs on please wait. This only seems to happen after it's been out for a while. We have to date replaced the HDD's and refirmwared the machine (due to HDD errors in the log). It seemed to be going well until the customer called this morning to say it's up to it's old tricks. When they did get it going it was making clunking noises and came up with a 'used toner bottle not set correctly' messege. They managed to get past this and are now running. I'm heading down there to take a look at the noise, but wondered if any of you have had anything similar.
    Many thanks in advance....

I had a customer with reoccuring HDD issues because they always shut down the machine with the line voltage (one switch for the whole office). The HDDs weren't broken but the RAID got corrupted so after reformatting it was OK until the next crash. Usually nothing bad happens if one doesn't power off the machine by the books but if the timing is bad (HDDs currently in use) you'll get problems. Well after some discussion I could manage to get the machine on a permanent powered outlet wich solved the issue.

I guess this has nothing to to with the HDD(wake up from standby issue. Sounds like the waste toner bottle couldn't be detected for some reason (happens sometimes if it moves to the front). It's also possible that the waster toner bottle is full but something is wrong with the detection - this could also explain the noises if the auger inside the bottle or other related parts can't move freely. You should better investigate this soon to avoid serious damage to the drive.

I had one do the same and did the same thing you did, firmware and HDD, it ended up being the controller board.

There is a service bulletin about the used toner bottle not set message. I've attached it. As far as the rest, can't help you with that at the moment, until more is known about the problem...

Thank you for your info, I have replaced the little BCU board and so far all is well.

          Cheers
