[CQ] Hi Please Help, we have Ricoh 3228c has light copies and adds toner constantly

We have a few Ricoh 3228c that are causing similar problems may all be related. Black copies are very light. First we changed the Developer unit, was ok for 2 days, then light black copies again, checked developer noticed dropping developer. We then changed the black developer clutch which has cured the problem before, but not this time. Please can anyone help. Thanks

sounds like a faulty toner pump and/or non-original toner to me

Thanks for your reply. We only use original. We replace the developer unit and few days later find light copies, check the developer and and find the unit is low on developer, looks like it is dropping dev. As mentioned we have changed black developer clutch in the passed and it worked but not this time. Sorry this machine is not asking for toner. Thanks for your help

Did you see a weird diagonal dev pattern on the mag roller and full-black-copies? In the chain of events does the machine now run with a dev unit that might have run with a faulty clutch for a while or did you change both the clutch and another dev unit when the issue re-occured?

Thanks for your reply. Yes the dev clutch was changed first then the new developer. Only 2 days later very light copies and found the developer unit was low on dev. Thanks

Lik Gift said, replace the black toner pump (B180 3356) and while you're there also replace all development clutches. Ricoh clutches sometimes aren't the most reliable ones. In one case I had to replace the development clutch twice. When you take a clutch apart often the metal plates are covered with a rust layer.

You found that the dev unit was low on dev??? This might sound like a really stupid question (2 questions actually) but a) how do you know that it was low on dev and b) where did the dev go to?

Thanks for the mail. If you look at the dev roller has little developer. Although dev unit was only put in 2 days before. dev gone some on copies and some in machine.

As mentioned before in the past when we had this same problem we changed the dev clutch and the problem was cured but not this time. I will have a look at toner pump and the pipes when I go to the machine next time as suggested on the replies. If you have any other ideas before I go to the machine would be appreciated. Thanks

I had this problem,light copies (Black) and replace the transfer belt, because is on transfer belt the ID SENSOR reed the paterns of the toner,and the belt alredy had many copies.

Try replace the transfer Belt first, is must easier to replace the toner pump and so on....

Try replace the transfer Belt first, is must easier to replace the toner pump and so on....

A toner pump is much, much,much cheaper than a transfer belt assy. If a color print is OK, then the transfer belt is not the solution.

And if you have very little brush on the mag roller then it's also not going to be the transfer. It sounds to me like either a) the pump or b) a bad connection in the back of the machine.
