    aficio 450 dark background

Have any of you techs had the problem whereas the background is visible on the copies, even after dev and consumables have been replaced?

I have been to a few lately where i have had to increase the charge bias to -1700 or more to help to remove it. I normally clean the mag roller aswell as this normally causes problems.

Do any of you have any useful hints or tips on these machines as i find theses very touchy with regards to cq.

What is an acceptable drum ground resistance on these machines? and what problems are encountered when there is a high resistance?

You hit the nail on the head with drum ground. Get some speaker wire or equivilant, take off the back cover, attach one end to ground(usually with a screw), fluff the threads out the other end, and bend it to where it touch's the fly wheel all the time. Problem solved.

As long as you've definately fitted new dev AND DRUM, as I found when first taking on Ricoh, its not cost efficient to prolong drum life like you can do with some manufactures as all of their auto process controls seem to center around it.

I have also had banding like backgroud across the page which was caused by poor charge roller contact.

Vac out old toner from cleaning unit to prevent contaminating your new dev. Take out and clean the charge roller with water and before putting it back in, clean the bushing and bias contact. Also make sure you have propper contact between charge roller & drum. Then clean ID sensor and set up ID initializing PWM as usual.

      Worth a try.

I have not put in a new drum as yet as its only done 50k, im going tomorrow to take some bits along with me (off another mc) if i cheat the side door the drum gets coated when its idling, i have had this before and it did not affect the copies. But this time it leaves a mess when idling and when a copy is made it has a real dark background.

P.s. I have replaced the drum earth with a know good one.

Cheers tony, i will take a another mag roller off another machine, although the roller is clean, what causes it to do this? as it meters correctly.

Sometimes the mag troller gets a film on it and can cause a similar problem, the drum is coated and its almost developer like. I will take the dev roller tomorrow, thanks for the info.
