Re: ricoh ft 4615 having very light copies
WOW. Now I'm dating myself......but can you confirm this is the corrrect model? i'm showing FT4215, 4415, etc, but not 4615.
Whatever the case, this is a real old one, and I believe the procedure is the same.
IF my memory is correct, even though you may be using the contrast button to "darken" the copies, I don't believe it does anything unless you actully turn off the "auto density" button first, and then use the "manual density" keys to lighten and darken. I think you will then see that the copies are actually far too dark.
But what you have to do to make the "auto density" correct was first clean the optics, then enter service mode, and adjust the proper service function to get a good copy in "manual" mode, and then run a simulation with the platen covered in paper (which turns on the lamp and scanner), and adjust a 'pot" on the mpcb to get it within a certain range to set the "Auto denstiy".
For these adjustments you really are on your own
ALSO....
I remember that the dev unit gears were a problem with these units, they could become so worn, that they would not turn the mag roller...make sure they're in good shapeLast edited by sandmanmac; 04-25-2012, 09:04 PM. -

Re: ricoh ft 4615 having very light copies
I looked up the model number, and it seems that it's an EU model, and the comparable model here was the FT4015.
I just happen to have an old CD with that model on it. My info above was somewhat in line with the procedure you need to do on this one. I never dealt with very many of these. But they were a poor design IMO.
But here are a few pages of instructions relating to the SP mode, settings and calibrations that need to be done relating to image density -especially after drum and dev replacement. Hopefully they help.
Also make sure that both the main and transfer corona wires are nice and clean, and tight

Re: ricoh ft 4615 having very light copies
Aside from that be sure to clean all the mirrors in the machine (obviously): 3 in the scanner, 2 more or less above the toner bottle and 1 above the drum. Check corona wire and transfer wires.
Then, yes there is a procedure like sandman says, only did it once a long time ago. I might be able to find it when I get back at the office...Comment

If you can remember all that Sandmanmac, I think you are safe from Altzimers, unlike the rest of us old farts.
Now what did i come in this room for.......?At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.Comment
