Toner does not seem to be getting to Drum/Dev unit (yellow). Is their a common reason for this problem. Figured I'd better check it out before I go tearing into this.

Yes.
Lots of posts about this issue in the copier version of this printer, which is the Aficio MP C3500/4500
The problem is generally either a plugged toner hose (often due to the use of non-Oem toner) or a shot toner pump. -

Ditto on the pumps, that is probably the number one cause of this issue. But you can't rule out the hoses either. The Bk and Y pumps are identical as are the C and M ones, the difference being the angle of the hose nipple. The reason for individual part numbers is because they come with the hoses, which are different lengths and bends for each.
