Most newer laptops can use a regular network cable; they will make the switch internally, so if you have a newer laptop you should be golden.

Most Def a brand new laptop..... we will test it out as soon as we get a moment.

Ok, try this. Using a laptop with the printer drivers installed on it, plug straight into the copier using a crossover cable. Make sure the copier and the laptop are both on the same IP address scheme (not the same IP address though). If you can't connect to the copier there is a problem with the network card in the copier.

And I should have added that if you can print to it then your problem is either your network or your netgear switch/router
