I was called out to check this machine twice. First trip could not duplicate the problem. Second time it showed up. On copies of any size, there is a blur, looks like it is stretched, from left to right perpendicular to lead edge. I asked the customer to try scanning which they did later on and said the blur was gone. I have worked on Kips, Sharp for 20 years and Samsung for 10years. I thank you in advance for your help with this issue, Randall.

Thanks for that info. Will that cause a blur that is only about 3 in wide near the middle of the copy?Comment

Re: Lanier LW 310 has a blur
Does the blur mainly happen in the morning or when the machine has come out of standby for a long time? I used to have a customer who had something similar: their office was at the foot of a mountain and when the weather would make a big change since they turned the heat down overnight it would get cool enough in the winter for condensation to form on the optics. The same would happen in the summer as they would blast the AC until even the windows to the outside would fog up.
Check to see if the machine is close to any vents or if letting the machine warm up for awhile gets rid of the issue.Comment

Re: Lanier LW 310 has a blur
No sir, usually across the entire page from left to right. If it is truly a blurr about the only way to get that is to lose contact between the drum and the paper. The more common problem to have is the image will look like it is over toned or the characters are real wide and fuzzy. If that is the case you could also simply have a dirty lens, which is common, cleaning blade problem or drum. If this does not resolve the issue do a panic stop in the machine to make sure where the problem is actually being created.Comment

Re: Lanier LW 310 has a blur
Thanks so much for the replies. Time of day does not seem to be an issue. My first contact with the machine was in the am at which I could not duplicate the problem. It came back later that day and I saw it do it the next morning. It does not appear to be a condensation issue. It is in a temp controlled room with their server. I call it a blur but it is more of a stretching of the image from left to right across the page. Also it does not always do it. At first I thought it may be a bad image unit because they say it will not happen when they print. Is the scanner an issue of any kind with this machine? Thanks.Comment

Re: Lanier LW 310 has a blur
Of all the machines I have out there I have not had any scanner related problems. Keep in mind if you think about ordering a print head get ready for price shock. Ricoh does not support this model any longer so the price on some of the components are really out of sight.. This model was replaced by models with the embedded controller.Comment

Re: Lanier LW 310 has a blur
These machines are notorious for dirty charge coronas, and will cause wavy "blur" lines from leading edge to trailing edge.
Unfortunately it's not a fun job to remove the corona and clean / replace it (I've always cleaned them with a small piece of scotchbrite and a pair of hemostats - carefully - you don't want to restring one if you don't have to.
Also clean the LED array (they dont' have a true laser unit - they're kinda more like an overgrown fax machine)73 DE W5SSJComment
