    MPC3500 Fax Problems

Anyone seen problems sending and receiving faxes on the MPC3500? I have a client that has constant problems. We switched it to a small stand alone fax and it works fine.

    Any settings to try?

    Thanks

    Try this

    G3 Switch 03 [SP No. 1-105-004]

    Bit 2

    V.8 protocol
    0: Disabled
    1: Enabled
0: V.8/V.34 communications will not be possible.
    Note:
Do not set to 0 unless the line condition is always bad
enough to slow down the data rate to 14.4 kbps or lower.

CML relay on the fax board fails intermitently causing fax Tx Rcv problems.
      replace fax pcb .

      Also

Turn down the fax speed . this may help
      good luck

We have problems like this with most Ricoh machines that have fax uits, if they are behind a pabx or if line quality is sub standard. Also when they have to communicate with fax servers.

We find that turning off ECM (Error Correction Mode) helps in extreme cases, but experimenting with the country code seems to work best.

Are you getting any SC codes? You may also check out a connection between a "small" board on a fax board and a main board. Sometimes due to a vibration it can be loose causing all kinds of problems with a fax. Just tak the whole controller out and look at the fax board carefully. Even if it looks fine but just a tiny gap between two boards may cause faulty connection.

My experience teels me that maybe 1% of all fax--related issues/calls turns out to be a faulty fax option. Usually I have to deal with bad line quality or pabx issues. My cheap handheld telephone usually helps determine most of these issues and is also a proof to the customer that I don't try to tell just some "say so".
