Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
I'd go with firmware to start, after that I'd say some sort of finger trouble.
Have they got a weird and wonderful batch feed defaulted on the machine, something like that?

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
Its baaack!
Just got another call from them.
She says its happening to both machines but only in copy mode. And after the docs have been fed it, it simply reads "copying". and nothing happens, they have to turn the machine off and back on.
I think I will put a HD in one and an ADF board in the other.

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
Visit today, ran Stacks thru the doc with no problem. one machine in on the network the other is not. Both exibit the problem. the networked machine will freeze in copying or printing. Both have quality line filters and have less than 30 k on them.
The system firmware was at F so I upgraded that and any of the other minor ones,(pcl, pdf, etc.)
I also uninstalled the "extended features" they dont use it. I tried to uninstall and remove the card but it SC'd out with 80_something about an address card. So I put the card back in but left it uninstalled.
I also reflashed the engine even tho it wasn't out of date.
There were no SC's in the log.
I ran auunch more copies and left.
I had a new HD, (D124 is a 320G SATA) but didnt install it, The non networked copier had its HD formatted last time out and it failed shortly after.
So we will see.Leave a comment:

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
I've had this on the Savin C9145. Got it RA'ed because of national account status. The replacement was a MPC4502 and the customer has reported the same freexing problem has occurred a few times. On the first machine I captured it on video, sent to Ricoh and all I got was more requests for video. Check your firmware I saw on TSRC that there has been alot of firmware released this week.Leave a comment:

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
If you have MP4002 which is "famous" with their glitches since the first day of production you may need to consider updating ALL firmware first, then if you run Java then update it to the latest stable version. Usually it resolve the issue.
Also HDDs on this babies are not good - lots of failures. Depending on what do you have installed on your copier (Globalscan, copytrack etc) you may try to disconnect HDD and see if it resolves freezing issue but it will stop those applications running from HDD to stop working. If after HDD weas disconnected machine started working OK then 100% problem caused by faulty HDD - replace ASAP
FYI - After HDD replacement some apps will need to be reloaded and their licenses wold need to be transferred (but its a different story)
Good luck!Leave a comment:

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
The new one I am setting up now has a small (3.5?) SATA 320G drive.
Guess I'll order that and see what happens.Leave a comment:

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
This is wierd, The parts book list a D124 number as a 320G HD. The index uses a D129 number and calls it 160G HD.
So I called the parts Dept and they tell me the D124 has been discontinued but they have one available. The D129 number has been changed to the D124 number.
The PSG and brochure say its a 128G drive. and the printer config sheet says 2G.
I am dizzy.
I have a 4002 coming in today for setup and I am going to pull the controller and see wtf.
Anybody want to hazard a guess what I will find.
Oh one more, I called Hytec and they list the D129 (160G) as the hard drive for this model.Leave a comment:

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
Maybe kind of dumb but make sure the toner bottle is full. Empty toner will cause machine to lockup before it says it's out. ALso you may want to disconnect finisher to see if it is hanging up machine. also a slow to warm up fuser will make the machine wait.Leave a comment:

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
Thanks for the reply Gaudin. But I never even put that mother in at install, I leave it out and replace the "Extended Features" button with a blank one.Leave a comment:

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
I know that problem on mpc 300.
If you uninstall the java platform or remove the sd card it dont freeze anymore...but no more java functions
I think its a problem with the sd-card...they can be written only x-times. A high quality sd-card e.g. 1.000.000 times...but a bad quality oder defective sd-card only 1000 times?Leave a comment:

Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying
The operators reports that after putting a stack into the DF, it sucks them in as normal, but then displays "copying" and nothing happens. They have to power cycle to start again. They have two of these machines and she thinks that it has happened to both of them. I sent them a couple of power filters but she called back into today for the same thing.
It sounds to me like a hard drive going south? But I thought I better get some input before I do. I mean both machines?
Input welcome. Thanks.
