    Re: SMB on Window 8

Windows 8 uses a newer SMB version 3. Manufacturers are still coming out with firmware to address this. If it is an older machine, there is not much hope.

It's pretty arse, don't you think, that most of the manufacturers have been caught on the hop by this? There have been downloadable pre-release versions of 8 available for, what, a year or so?

It's no surprise about Ricoh though, they are after all the company who brought us the disaster that is My-Ricoh.

ricoh is currenting working on firmware to correct this issue, depending on the model of machine it might be a while before it is released. Try scanning to ftp or email for the time being.

          yeah I agree on this.

Is the issue you are having due to windows7 & 8 (possibly vista) using 128 bit encryption on its file sharing settings by default.

If go < Control Panel > < Network and Sharing Center > <Advance Sharing Settings> you can select the option of downgrading t he encryption level to 40 or 56 bit for backwards compatibility.

In terms of actual security as long as any customer wifi is setup on WPA/2 not WEP, and the NAT firewall does not have any massive holes punched through it, and also a decent antivirus system in place. Reducing the encrytion level down for compatability would not be too greater risk dependent upon discussion with your clients.

I have no way to test this theory at the moment but if you have any success with it please let me know.
            Kind regards

But this is so weird just now I tested it with a Konica Minolta and it works just fine.
Have you tested with a ten yrs old Minolta machine and see if you have the same result? The users ask for a Ricoh 3045 which is been out for more than 10 years ago.

Check the TSRC website, some machines the firmware has already been released. Also if it hasn't you can request beta firmware by filling out a e-Alert. Its that easy...I have my MPC3002 scanning to windows 8 and 2012 server via SMB, just had to update the system and NCS firmware.

I've only got access to My-Ricoh. I got an email from them today, incidentally, to acknowledge that the site doesn't work properly and that they're trying (in vain, once again) to fix it.

Anyway, it's sort of working at the moment yet I can't find any firmware relating to Windows 8. That said, even if the site were working it's still the hardest site to navigate known to man. Do you know which machines are working?

At this time RICOH does not support scanning to folder with Windows 8. If you are a Ricoh dealer or direct office then your service manager needs to go to the TSC web site and put in an e-mail update request for the firmware update. I have been dealing with this issue for the last month.

That may very well help if I can get access to Ricoh Europe's site to download the buggers! Thank you!

Yes i agree, have already tried that. Some current model firmware has been released but for older models they are still working on the firmware from what i have been told by Ricoh. On the Tsrc site they have model and release dates for firmware as well.

I remember a bulletin for that...........Micosoft changed their smb, and Ricoh will provide only firmware upgrades for newer machines.......there is no change to make it work with a Aficio 1015......

We happen to have Windows 8 on our demo floor along with a C4502A. We tried setting up scan to folder and of course it did not work. Tried messing with regedit with no luck. After about an hour of trying different things, we updated the firmware and PRESTO!!!! it worked!!! We have a customer with a 201 and windows 8 and will try updating the firmware and see what happens.....fingers crossed!!! Good luck to all......
But I cleaned the scan glass.......
