Not weird really. Konica have updated their firmware to support the current SMB protocol used in Windows 8, Ricoh have (yet) not.

FYI, Windows 8 uses a different SMB version in which Ricoh, Canon, Minolta, Kyocera Mita copiers will not able to scan to folder without a special firmware. Good luck in enabling the firewall ports.

I just tried, with a success on the Connection Test on the copier. But it still fail to scan.

Tried on both Aficio 2022 and 3045 with both also success to scan on windows 7 and windows xp

The windows 8 is the RTM evaluation fresh copy nothing install. Just for the sake of testing on windows 8.

Firmware is required for all models at this point. However, it will only be issued for the newer machines and on a staggered realease - I think for about 2008 model years and up, but I don`t have the list handy at the moment. Regardless, there is ZERO chance that either of those machines will ever work.
So, as has been suggested, FTP it is.

hi, check whether the rule in windows firewall is not with the port 445 as SMB, unlike XP and Windows Server 2003 windows 7 and server 2008 default to port 445 SMB.
very likely that it has inherited eight windows windows 7.

I prefer FTP scanning anyways. Once it's up and running there is just a very little chance that this configuration won't work.

Windows Live Essentials can cause problems with some of the machines I work with. I've seen it prevent scans because there is something that blocks it.
I guess now would be the time to play with it, before it goes live and people start grumbling that it doesn't work.

Windows 8 uses the same kernal as Vista and Windows 7, so what ever you normally do with those OS's is what you would do with Windows 8.

The big difference with Windows 8 is that by default it wants you to use a Live account for logging in locally on the Windows 8 PC. Therefore you would need to use a Live accout for authentication with the machine.

Now you can set up Windows 8 to use local usernames and passwords and for anyone out there setting up Windows 8 Customer Preview (only version avaiable at the moment) make sure that the PC isn't connected to the network as this will give you the option on setup to use local accounts. My Windows 8 box was connected to the network which meant it had internet access and didn't give me the option for local authentication.

Windows 8 RT is slightly different to the normal Windows 8 as Microsoft has always built their OS to run from an x86 package in the processor (yes this includes the x64 bit processors as they are based on the x86 package as well). Windows 8 RT will capable of running from an ARM based processor which means Windows 8 on tablets with long battery life. Android and IOS are built to run off the ARM packages and Microsoft was losing out on that front so they are attempting to break into this market space.

It's a knocking bet that it'll need firmware to work.

As for Windows 8, what little I've seen of it sends shivers of dread and loathing to my very core. I can't work out whether it's a tablet OS with an updated version of Windows 7 behind it or the other way around but, whichever it turns out to be, I'm really quite worried that a) people will think that it's thoroughly great, a bit like they do with iPads and b) it's going to be crap.

I believe that it's coming in a separate guise for their new tablet, RT (which sounds like a Renault spec to me) or something like that, and that this may also be going onto Windows phones too. With that in mind it's quite likely that people will be going out and buying the wrong OS (a la Windows XP Home) and that the stripped-down versions will not support all of the scanning functionality.

Maybe I'm just cynical though.

Keep in mind that Windows 8 is not even at the final development stage of release to manufacturer so there may be a lack of all features being implemented in the beta. You may want to check on the Microsoft website for Windows 8 to see if the SMB feature is even live.

Are there any screen shots of the interface available somewhere? I'd like to see it without the fanfare Microsoft usually announces a new product with.

I tried it a few months back without success myself. I think we may be in for a similar situation as Windows 7, where firmware updates will be required, or maybe there are certain features or protocols not included in the release preview that will be in the final release, I do hope it's the latter.
Also, in my brief time with it, I despised it.

Not having seen the interface for 8 yet, the only thing I could recommend is to make sure the user group of "Everyone" is given either "co-owner" or "read/write" permissions on the shared folder.

I just setup scan to folder on window 8, but without success. Does anyone have any idea or suggestion on this topic, welcome to share with everybody. Your help are much appreciated.
