I have had numerous calls for Tray 1 will not stay closed. In every case the latch mechanism on the tray is broken. I've tried repairing the break but it never lasts. Always have to replace the tray assy. Has anyone come up with a "Fix" for this or determined what is causing the break.

Teach the customer how to open and close the drawers properly. I suspect that is how they are getting broke.Testing 1-2-3, testing, testing. Is this thing on? -

Re: Ricoh MP C2051 Savin C9125, Broken Tray 1
I've run into this problem a few times, and if these are decent customers if you (very gently) let them know that :
A) the vast majority of people with these machines never have this problem
B) the service call was caused entirely by the actions of the customer
reasonable people will know that they need to use a bit more care when opening and closing the drawers.
Also, if you do this you will probably be able to righteously charge parts and labor for replacing the drawers the next time, for even people who have contracts. Which works wonders for people who don't pay attention the first time. Just make sure you document it.
Final warning, though, take this up with your local supervisor before doing this on your own, I'd hate to see you get fired for something that works quite nicely in my local area that doesn't work even a little there.Comment

Thank you Iowatech for your concern for my job. Being the supervisor I hope I don't have to can myself.
We have been charging the customer for the trays if they are broken a 2nd time. I've just been seeing these break in the same spot way too often. What I was hoping for a solution or a "modification" that one of us techs has come up with to help eliminate the breaking in the 1st place.Comment

When the screws securing the tray rails loosen up problems occur. Make sure they are tight. And I just noticed you're referring to a C2051, not a B140. May not apply to your machineLast edited by mikadonovan; 07-25-2012, 04:08 PM.NEVER ASSUME ANYTHINGComment

If we are talking about the same issue that occurs on the C2050/C2550, check out this website. They seem a bit pricey for what you get. So we make our own. Not too tough. It's actually easier if you mod them before they break.

As a time traveler from the future just now returning to the past, I'm just going to leave this info from a future post here, in case someone comes across this thread first.
Here's a neat way to repair the paper drawer after it is broken:

Strange, we have a number of these style machines out in the field and have not had a single broken paper tray like this. Oops, probably cursed myself now...A Ricoh Service Tech for 7 year. A Konica Minolta Service Tech for 7 years. Now, KM service manager for 4 years.
My Ricoh knowledge is slowly dwindling away at this point. Many things have been lost to time...Comment

I have used this solution, and the "two components sticker" solution too.
But, if lubricating the moving parts in the tray, it wont broke. 0xDComment
