    AF2022 "Please Wait"

Customer first got a message about over DPI limit (not exact words) but she only had 3 pages to scan to file. I reset machine, then got "Please Wait". Then after 2 minutes, solid wrench came up. Left shut-off overnight, on start up today it appeared normal until trying to get a SMC report for SC's. It locked-up. Then I reset, then "Please Wait" and later wrench. Anyone seen this before?? Thanks, first time user of copytechnet.

Any SC code displayed with the wrench?

But sounds sure like a hard drive problem to me.

I'd replace it from the off if I were you as well, I've tried reformatting them with a USB HDD caddy but they always come back sooner or later.

It would sure help to know what the code is.......

          =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

But my money's on the HDD too, but I've had a few NVRAM chips get whacked out on the B140's. You could try an NVRAM clear, but make sure you print out ALL the SMC reports before so you can set everything back when you're done.

no need for SMC print out, just upload file to SDcard, when reset is done
              download file to the machine.

You can easily verify if it is the HDD by simply unplugging it from the copier.

Yeah, you'll find if it is the Hard Drive; after unplugging it, it'll boot fine. Also you'll find most, if not all the features will have disappeared. Replacing the Hard Drive will resolve this problem. If it's happened to the Customer before, and the engineer has advised them on the Shut Down proceedure, I'd charge them for the call out and parts.

                      AF2022 " Please Wait "

So sorry for the late, late response but all of ya'll were right about the HDD being bad!!! I first reloaded the firmware, then ran SMC report and it showed SC 865 (HD access error > replace controller board. and SC 991 (Software continuity error). Next morning it was down again for please wait. Replaced HDD and problem went away. Thank you all for the help.

Remember that any 2.5" IDE 40Gb laptop style HDD will do, it doesn't necessarily have to be one sourced from Ricoh (I find that I get a mixture of brands Hitachi/Western Digital etc depending on where we're sourcing them from that week) and you can often get them for a fraction of the cost if you go down to your local computer hardware place.

On the bigger kit that uses an array of HDDs in a RAID. Then you must make sure that they are all identical, they don't have to be the same brand as what was originally in the machine but they must all be IDE (not SATA like some dumbass at one of our partner dealerships got once) and the same capacity as what was in there originally.

yeah that is true, replacing the HDD might fix your issue but then you won't be able to do what you were trying to do in the first place.

I would try reformatting the HDD if that is possible. and of course print the SMC report before doing anything

                              You Guys Rock

                              And then the customer says.....

"but the Hard Drive must have been working yesterday" huh?

Anyway,I formatted her from the control panel, looks good so far. We'll keep our finger crossed but looks like you guys deserve a medal.

I'd like to nominate you for some sort of statue or something, some sort of monument to which we, your adoring masses, may pay tribute. Ahh, to be in the presence of such greatness.

                              Thanks Again;
