    MPC 3300 Dead Display panel

    This one has me stumpped.

The display panel is totally dark. The tech prior to me tried the power supply.
I tried an entire operations panel, the BICU, IOB, Controller Unit, and the SIOB.

The machine will cycle and the scanner will scan out illuminate and that is when the alert light will come on, but the display will not do anything. I can plug in the access for SP mode and it goes to that point but can not get any farther due to the dark display.

    Has anyone seen this before?
    Any input is GREATLY appreciated.

If you shine a flashlight into the display I bet it is coded out with the polygon mirror motor SC202. You can also log into web image monitor to see. The polygon diode shorts and smokes the BICU. You must replace Polygon and BICU at the same time or the old polygon will blow the new BICU.

i reiterate black clouds thoughts on this.

If you look through the browser you can see the 202 or as mentioned shine a torch on the touch screen and you will probably see the code there too. One difference is that I have had this fault twice myself and both times I only fitted the polygon mirror motor itself and has cured both machines.

At the same time just beware, I have heard of exactly the same as black cloud said and fit both at the same time as it has happened to a collegue and had to fit a 2nd polygon mirror and a BICU!!!

First, replace the polygon mirror motor. If that doesn't work, also replace the BICU. If you replace the BICU first, chances are that the defective polygon mirror motor is blowing up the BICU. The polygon mirror motor is the cause of it all, so replace that one first! It causes damage to the BICU.

This is unrelated to the fault, but the Rangers avatar made me laugh.

            That is all.

I have tried to shine a light on the lcd and can not see anything, plus I am unable to web image into the machine.... I tried that several times. I did try only the bcu I will get anothe one of those and the polygon mirror motor.

At this point I desprately want to get this machine off my board. I hate inheriting these kind of problems after someone else has worked on it. Always fell like I'm troubleshooting the tech.

Thanks everyone I will keep you posted.

Have you tried some ram, and another hdd

i take it you have already swapped the control panel???

In cases like this, if your in a customer i would advise a loan machine and returning this machine to the warehouse for further tests.

my last instance of this problem turned out to be a board within the control panel, before that it was the connector to the main board was damaged from the last techy as he had forced the connector and damaged the pins

Hope you get it sorted mate

Re: MPC 3300 Dead Display panel

I can only speak from my own experience. And the one time I've seen it I was able to shine my flashlight on the display and read it, providing I was a bit creative with the angle I shone it. I could see only a small bit at a time. I'm hoping additional issues have not been created. I can't imagine why you can't get into WIM or see anything on the display. Never the less I suggest the polygon and BICU could possibly be a good starting point. Alternately testing the keyboard and display on another machine would be easy enough to try. Good luck in your quest.

You all were right on target. Polygon and BICU.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I was also able to see the display with my flash light when I turned off the lights in the copy room.

Definately learned a lesson on this one.

                    Thanks again
