    [CQ] MP C2551 color fading

    Hi There,

I been working with this machine for months where all the CMYK color is fading.
The first time I did a memory 'Engine' clear and the color back to normal.
But after about two weeks, the customer call back and informed that the color is fading again.
I decided to replace the BCU and the BCU NVram but again it can only hold for about two weeks and the color start to fade again.
Replace the controller also did not help

    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance

My guess would be failing ID sensors

What were your thinking to perform memory clear to fix this fault?

Just to be sure, which code did you execute?

memory clear will give you more problem, e.g. if you forgot to perform the force line adjustments. replacing bcu, nvram and controller is unusual.

Very unusual. PCU's and developers would have been a better idea.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Hit it.

Assuming the machine is up to PM, the print and copy calibration in user tools > maintenance is always a good place to start.

I've seen this happening sometimes in copy mode only, then you just have to tweak the Manual Gamma adjustment a little higher. I am a Lanier tech and don't have the model translation for that machine, but if it is Ricoh based the Manual Gamma adjustment is in the Scanner section of Service mode, near the end. The default Manual Gamma is 15, I find that 17 to 18 usually does the trick.
Oh, and adjust all modes of the affected colors equally, otherwise your copies will look stupid, or at least mine did.

Thank you for the advises, the reason I clear the Engine memory is that already do the colour calibration and also also the manual gamma adjustment but the color doesn't not show any improvement. Today I'm going there again. I bringing ID sensor and IPU. See how it goes.

                Thanks

You're gunna need to re-do the SP's from the birth certificate.

Did you check to see if the image was light on the drum or the itb before you did a memory clear? Memory clears are the last resort for me. Image quality on these machines in my experience are usually pcu or itb related.

I am sure i posted to this thread earlier about checking/changing drums and devs and changing the values in SP modes, before any change of Boards on the machine....

                      Were did it go??

Don't forget, most people are allergic to using the search function, they'd just rather post a new thread regarding a topic that already has umpteen threads already.

Today I put back all the board and NVram that replace earlier and put back the value from the birth cert.
I have to go with neergish, to replace the id sensor.
Rule out the drum and dev cos the machine is about 3 month old and the color counter is abt 2000.
Furthermore I'm talking abt all color not just one or two that is fading.
Anyway, thanks again for the advise and got to wait for two weeks to see whether I've replaced the correct part.
Meanwhile if you champions have any other idea, pour it out...need to prepare for the worse..right

                          Cheers!
