    Ricoh AP3800C

    Hello.

A little about us. My husband and I own a small company providing typesetting/design/layout, promotional items and print brokering. We purchased a used Ricoh Aficio AP3800C so we wouldn't have to outsource color copies. It has the bottom printer unit and the top scanner unit.

We have the most simple problem. We cannot print to 11 x 17 and it's driving me mad! Of course, the manual downloaded from Ricoh just tells you how to load the paper, change the toner, etc.

It is currently connected to our router via ethernet and we are printing from our Mac G5. We have downloaded the Mac printer utility from the Ricoh website, entered the IP address and all that. We can print fine - as long as it's 8.5 x 11.

The file we are trying to print is from Acrobat 8 and it is an 11 x 17 page. We have 11 x 17 paper loaded in the 2nd tray (of 3) at the bottom.

When I choose File Print, I choose the Ricoh. The Page Scaling is set to None. At the small image of the page, it says document size 11 x 17, paper size 8.5 x 11. When I go to Paper Handling, Use Documents Paper Size says US Letter. My only choices there are Letter and Legal. If I go to File Page Setup, I can change page size to Tabloid, which I had to manually create using Custom Size. Now If I go to File Print, it says document size 11 x 17, paper size 11 x 17. OK. Now when I go to Paper Feed, my only choices are Auto Select, Cassette, Manual Feed. If I select Auto or Cassette, it uses the 8.5 x 11. Manual for 11 x 17 just wants to jam. Aaarrrggghhh!

    Thank you for any help.

I have not had to setup on of these AP3800s. But I can steer you in the right direction.

The most common thing to forget when doing a print driver setup is to forget to do the Configuration. If you don't tell the machine that is has that bottom printer unit, it won't know, and won't give you options to use it.

Forgive me if I miss some keystrokes here (I'm winging it):

Start, Settings, Printers, right-click your printer, Properties, Device Settings (its usually the last tab to the right and may be called something else), you may have a button called Auto-Configure or you may have to manually select each of the options that are installed on your machine, Apply, OK, Close.

Now you should have more paper tray choices.

    =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thank you, but we are printing from a Mac. I tried going to the Printer Setup and didn't see anything else applicable. Unless I missed something.

HAVE YOU TRIED TO CHANGING THE PAPER SIZE IN THE PRINTER DRIVER ITSELF? WHAT YOU CAN MAYBE TRY IS TO GO TO THE MACHINE. PRESS MENU, GO TO SYSTEM AND THEN IN THERE YOU CAN LOOK FOR "AUTO CONTINUE". THAT YOU SET TO 0min OR IMMEDIATE. AFTER THAT LOOK FOR SOMETHING THAT SAYS SUB PAPER SIZE, SET IT TO ON. THE MACHINE SHOULD THEN PRINT ON WITCH EVER PAPER SIZE IS IN THE PAPER TRAY. NO MATTER WHAT THE PAPER SIZE IS SET ON THE MAC.

Unfortunately, we cannot do that either. The Menu button and the interface that's on the printer portion of the machine is disabled. Our understanding from the tech that was here is that control panel is disabled when you have the scanner attachment. All the manual things are done through the scanner control panel. We have tried setting the paper size on the scanner control panel too, but it didn't work. I guess we just have to wait for the tech to come back again - at $125/hr. - because we're having some jams. Hopefully, he can figure it all out. Sigh.

This machine is driving us nuts and the manual is totally help-less. It doesn't address any of these things. It doesn't address connecting it to your computer either. The tech gave us a brief rundown of "adding the printer" through the control panel once it was connected via ethernet to our router. All our PCs don't recognize it even though we put in the correct IP address, etc. Only our Mac G5 and the printer utility we downloaded from the Ricoh website recognize the printer and work.

            Thanks for trying.

OK, try to acess the machine via network browser, in Safari type in the the machine IP EX: 192.168.1.10 to enter as an admin, just login typing only the users password, and the factory default is password, now you´ll be able to setup your custom settings

Are you choosing "print as image" in the print method? You choose File, the Print. In the Print window that opens, you choose Adobe, then in the lower window you choose "Print as Image". Then print.

If you have properly set up the configuration of the driver, during set-up, then this is the most likely cause. If not, then it is a driver configuration issue.

Kcoda, I will take a look at my laptop when I get to the shop. I am not overly familiar with Macs, but should be able to find how to configure the driver from the shop...

What OS are you running on your G5?

Download the Printer Utility for MAC (Ricoh USA - Support Center).
This will allow you to configure your installed options and choose the proper trays.

Interestingly enough, I cannot access the IP address through Safari or Explorer. Hhhm. Yet I CAN print to the printer, just not 11 x 17.

I have already downloaded the Printer Utility for Mac - that's what I've been using.

We just acquired the AP3800C from a company who no longer needed it. We didn't get anything with it (software, etc.) We hooked it up to the network with an ethernet cable...when I try to access the configuration online, it asks for a login & password....my question is, is there a way to reset everything to the factory default?

                          Thanks!

I already looked at the manual...it says read the README file on the CD (which I don't have)
