    [Dead] MPC2800 Keeps going Bang!

Got a MPC2800 in the field that Blows the PSU Intermittently sometimes usually 6-9 months between blows as anyone evey come accross this happening?

Prior to the last time I fitted a Surge Protector to the Mains Lead but it did the same thing again after 9 months customer says the machine was doing a big run of booklets at the time but i have checked the finisher for staples shorting out and cant find anything it that area.

Sounds like the psu or perhaps fuser unit been taken apart and not been put back quite right. Check the lamps or thermistors not worn/touching any metal parts or the fuser. Copiers with IH coil used to do that. If memory serves me right 2800 doesn't have one.

I would also be looking in the fuser area in regards to taking out the PSU.

When you get the machine going again, what SC code appears, that should tell you exactly whats going on....

No SC codes are being Logged and the Fuser unit as never been removed or taken apart this is the 4th PSU the machine is on atm the last time it was replaced was in January this time when I Turned it on after replacing the PSU the only thing noticed was a jammed a3 Booklet in the Folder on the Booklet finisher.

Its really weird I know the PSUs were Modified but its had 2 of the Modifield PSUs fitted and it still seems to go bang at random Intervals taking out the FU102 on the PSU and a capacitor at the same time If you just replace the fuse it goes bang... So you have to Replace the PSU.

Next time it happens im thinking of swapping out the Finisher just as elimaination.

How is the power on the customers site??

Have they mentioned they had a black out or maintenace since the PSU blew?

I have had power spikes take out PSU's before.....

The power seems Ok its in a Primary School and prior to the latest blow I fitted a Surge Protector Plug to the machines Power Cord which was still working and said Protected on the led at the time.

If you are referring to RF sperry, then that is possible. It depend if the copy machine is next to a high power RF transmitter. It is quiet possible to get RF energy back into the circuits boards and burn out components. Any Amateur Radio operator can tell you about RF energy in circuits. The RF power level has to be up around 100watts or more before you start to see smoke signals coming from circuits. RF energy in amateur radio digital systems like computers paket radio an such can get quiet bad. All grounding and earth sheilding needs to be followed to minimize these very real affects.
