You have to replace the whole drum unit as internal parts are unavailable. Yes a black drum unit can be modified to be used for color by shaving down or removing the metal rod in the rear connector. Use google to inquire about this, and it will direct you to this sites relevant posts on the subject, and there are many.

Is it not charge roller lines? I think that's more likely on these PCU's, the charge rollers fail quite quickly but the drums and blades seem to last forever. It's a shame we can't get the charge roller assemblies as a service part, these PCU's would then crack half a million with no problem. Several MPC4501's at one of our customers have touched half a million on their original black PCU.

Katun has a kit with just drum and blade. I've used it once in a MPC4500 three months ago and it has not failed yet. This customer does 40000 copies for month but till now no problem. If it helps I can give you the part number from Katun.

I never have problems with the drums or blades on these units, seems the charge rollers are always the culprits, and I have yet to find any vendors that sell just the charge rollers. I do see some vendors that rebuilds those units and reconditions the charge rollers, but I have never had any luck with any sort of cleaning on those charge rollers. I swear those drums would make double yield if you could replace just the charge rollers.

Cleaning the charge rollers will usually get you by for a few days if you have to order a new unit, but they never hold up, usually only lasts 500-1000 more prints after cleaning.

I am a huge fan of buying genuine black drum units and slicing the connector to fit in the colors as the color drums are 3 times the price.

If you do it properly take the drum out and the cleaning ass'y clean the c/r with water and vac the c/r cleaning roller it will last 180 to 220 k. I have done it many times before. but if you want to replace colour drum, just get black one and file the connector on the back.
