    MPC3500 Magenta Background Steaking

I went to visit a mpc3500 this morning. It makes blacks perfectly, but in color it streaks magenta. I attached some pics. I noticed the customer was using generic magenta.

How many prints have each drum and dev done, find on smc logging data sheet page 1 at bottom right corner, have you tried cleaning the charge rollers on the pcu's. Drum life 80k and dev life is 120K on these machines but it does look like your charge rollers are dirty looking at your pics.

Looks like 96K on the K drum and 62K on the colors.

Easy fix. Just take out the PCU and clean the charge roller with water or glass cleaner. While your at it you may aswell do the other colours at the same time.

I second this but make sure roller is dry before putting back into pcu. once c/q is ok then acc the machine.

Cleaning of the charging roller will not last for long, i would suggest you to replace the drum unit and btw. i see cyan streaks also, so replace cyan drum too.

+1 on the dirty charge rollers! I would also check the charge roller cleaning rollers for contamination.

Cleaned the charge roller and all is well for now. Have any of you tried the replacement drum (kit) that precisionroller has? Its just a drum and blade. I have found that the charge roller usually gets messed up because the drum blade is starting to fail.

The charge rollers get contaminted way before the blades start to fail. It's usually caused by heavy coverage which overloads the waste recycling system on the PCU's, which in turn contaminates the charge roller and it's cleaning roller. These PCU's would last five times their rated life if Ricoh only released a fucking charge roller assembly.

I have tried the replacement drum and blade kits for these and was not happy with them, stick with the OEM.

I'm surprised no-one mentioned anything about using a non OEM toner in this machine.

Since I am not a dealer I am always looking for ways to cut costs. On my Ricoh color units I only use Oem supplies. The compatible toner I tried I believe clogged up a toner pump and caused some down time for an important account, not worth it. The drum and blade I tried did not go the distance and had to be replaced early, again not worth it.
