    Sourcing Ricoh tech near Boston

    Hello,

I am new to the forum, and looking for a Ricoh copier tech to serve North of Boston area. (a MPC4500 in particular).

My experience with printers/copiers was 10 years with Hewlett Packard designing the next generation paperpath/system mechanical architecture. Unfortunately this means although I can help with paperpath issues on a variety of machines (have evaluated/tested/repaired many different paper handling systems), it doesnt mean I know anything about maintenance of this Ricoh machine outside of paperpath.

So am looking for a tech in the area of rte 495 N/NW around Boston.

Why do we need to know any of this? Surely they have telephones in your area? Pick it up, and make a call.

Not to worry, I'm just hanging out and having a couple of drinks anyway.
When I need my car serviced, I don't go to a auto-tech site, describe my own capabilities in other areas, and never mention a specific problem with the car.
All I'm saying is that if you have a specific problem, create a thread, describe it, and maybe we can help.

        P.S.
I don't have the ability to delete your account. That's up to you.

Why's everybody being so arsey tonight? I'm feeling sorry for the new chaps right now!

I can't help though, I'm in England. Unless you mean Boston Spa, in which case I can.

Actually I despise Boston, my ex is from there. Hatred by association, I'm afraid.

Well - my thinking was this:

I tried the phone book, and its pretty random at finding a tech willing to do a one off service call to a consumer.

Also there is a site called 'Onforce'. I used to use it a lot for this type of thing (worked at the company for a while), but now it seems they cater only to companies. For those of you looking for work I recommend you take a look: OnForce - Your Partner In Service (I am in no way affiliated anymore but simply passing along info in case it helps someone find paid WORK!)

But I know these sites are full of techs looking for work, so thought I would post it here. I didnt see the 'employment' section, so thank you for pointing me there.

At the same time, I didnt want to list the problem and ask for FREE tech support, without offering anything in return. I dont have much to offer - just some insights specifically to HP inkjet printers (and a little laser work), and general paper handling design concepts. So I listed this out - in case it could be something useful to someone. (again, I didnt want to simply come on and post a question without the potential to offer a contribution back in the same fashion).

Then at the same time I am ok PAYING someone a modest fee to set this thing up for me. The 'problem' is very basic at this point (and possibly could even be done remotely??):

I purchased a used MPC4500. Its a real gamble I know, but I did it. The place I purchased it from had a service contract and its not quite clear what happened, but they seem to no longer have any support for it. The machine is locked out - meaning a user code each time you want to make a copy. I do have a user code that lets me copy, but for administration I cant even run a color drum calibration, and of course turning off these controls requires administrator privilege.

They did provide me with what they 'thought' was the username and password. It could be.

I would like to simply clear the system and unlock all functionality.

Then I need to set up up on a home network as a network printer. And also enable the scan to email (which I believe will just be network connect at that point)

From there I can do a color calibration (currently it seems to lack yellow - the toner is low and I have plenty of this so can add toner but would still like to calibrate the drums). Cleaning rollers, tensions, etc... I can handle. Some of these have some rubber blooming out. Not a crisis, but affects reliability of pick/skew/handling

                          ----------------------

From what I have learned since my initial post is that I should be able to address this machine via the IP connected directly to a PC. Im not sure if I need a cross over cable or not. But if I can do this, then I can change administration settings and also put it on DHCP perhaps (to match my home network). Of course this assumes they have given me the correct admin password. Putting it on my existing network to address it doesnt work because the IP structure isnt the same.

I was originally hoping to be able to clear all settings from the copier front panel, but maybe this doesnt work (there is a 'logon' button but nothing happens when I press this)

I welcome all insights and guidance. I know its some very basic questions. But also know that if the admin password turns out to be incorrect then a system reset might be fairly involved.

Not as much of a gamble as you might think. How many copies has it done? And has it ever been serviced recently? (Pretty standard stuff, I know).

Do you know what the machine IP is (if it is set to static)? If it already set to DHCP you can skip most of the start of the next paragraph:

Let's pretend it is 10.0.0.150, if you connect a cross-over between your PC and the copier; set your PC to 10.0.0.10 (or some other random address really) and ignore any settings for gateways, DNS servers, etc, etc. You should be able to access the Web Manager through the copier IP. Login with the default username admin and password left empty. Change all the settings you wish (under Configuration), delete all user logins from Address Book Managerment and disable user authentication entirely. If the admin login fails try the backup supervisor and password again left empty.

                            See also: http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/ri...ord-reset.html

Once that is done, I might recommend checking out the logging data, to see what the latest SC error codes may have been and a jam history.

Very helpful, thank you. I am now unlocked and can work with the machine.

More work to do - it seems the yellow only prints on a partial page - towards the back half of the drum. The front parts - nothing. There are posts on here to consider the drum or the ITB. Troubleshooting in process.

When I try a color registration it fails - dont know if that is a related clue.
