Very helpful, thank you. I am now unlocked and can work with the machine.

More work to do - it seems the yellow only prints on a partial page - towards the back half of the drum. The front parts - nothing. There are posts on here to consider the drum or the ITB. Troubleshooting in process.

When I try a color registration it fails - dont know if that is a related clue.

color registration will fail if copy quality is poor check your mileage on your units,

i only do color reg. if only the images appear blurred.

Additional background requested:

The B/W count is at about 360k pages. The color at about 60k pages. So 420k pages total (doesnt seem that unreasonable for a 6 year old copier)

I dont have any history of service - so no idea if anything has been replaced or not. The log files (so far) turn up nothing in terms of error codes/jam history. I may not have found the right ones, am working on this in small bits of time so will look some more later this evening.
