The 899 Virus at MPC-xx01 models I have read all threads. What to do?

Anyone found out way we get 899?
I have read all threads at Copytechnet but still 899. Update the firmware, close all unused protocol, set the I/O buffer to 256, set the IP.
Do not know if the customer use PCL 5, 6 or PS, but the machine we talk about was MPC-5501.

The only way to solved the problem was to clear the printerque at the server

Next day, 4 more 899 come to us, diffrent customer. This time it was on MPC 4501 and MPC 2051

the strange this time was at when we arrived to the copier, it works. We do not think the customer have clear the que. We think they just restart the copier, so we think that 899 will came again some day =/

Corrupted file in the print que causes this update the Firmware.

x2.... There was a LOT of trouble with the firmware on this model. make sure it is ALL up to date, especially the power save subsystem.

Also found the following on the RUK forum.

FaultWhen turning the machine on with the customers network cable attached SC899 is displayed
      Cause
Incorrect setting of subnet mask in relation to IP address
      Action
Set subnet to match IP address
In this case a class A IP address (first number of IP between 0 and 127) used with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 (class C). Changed subnet address to 255.0.0.0 which resolved the issue.

was your 899 at the school due to corrupt file in the print que.

I posted this problem with the print que a couple of weeks ago and put it on tier 2 database but with mine the firmware was up to date and still had sc899 due to corrupt file in the print que. A problem which looks like it may continue for a while yet i fear.

Sometimes it still does not work, i did all of this on 2 machines and it ended up being a corrupt print job in the que. found out the hard way.

Re: The 899 Virus at MPC-xx01 models I have read all threads. What to do?

I was helping a tech yesterday who said tech support had him change the font for the Sc899 on a Mp6001. So far so good on that machine.

We were on a c4501 that started with going offline all the time, then he got a Sc899 that wouldn't clear. I went out after he replaced the controller. The Sc899 went away, but the offline issue remains.

When I hard set the network speed it came back online for about 10 minutes, then went back offline. It would do the same when I unplugged the network cable. I unchecked the SNMP in the port setting. That just left the status on the PC as online, but the jobs wouldn't print until we unplugged (& re-connected) the cable. Reflashed the firmware, tried both PCL6 & PCL5 drivers after deleting the old from the Print server properties. Still no luck.

Any ideas on this? BTW the printer is loaded locally on all the PC's, not on a server.

Re: The 899 Virus at MPC-xx01 models I have read all threads. What to do?

There was a bulletin in the UK last year so I think the custom firmware is no longer necessary??

                    TSB 016A

                    Symptom:
                    SC899 on MPC2051/2551, MPC3001/3501, MPC4501/5501 and MPC300/400.
                    Cause:
Related to Controller but still under investigation in Japan.
                    Action:
Try the following actions in the order stated to try and resolve this Service Code.
                    1.
Update ALL firmwares to latest levels.
                    2.
If occurring when large files are sent to print, try breaking the job down into smaller sections.
                    3.
If the data light is flashing, delete the jobs from all queues before inserting Ethernet cable.
                    4.
                    Use the PCL5c driver.
                    5.
On ATC2.5, APC2.5, DiC1.5 and Zeus C-1 load new customised PCL firmware. This is available to download from Ricoh Technical.
                    6.
Confirm with user IT Administrator that IP Address and Subnet Mask are correct.
                    7.
Confirm with user IT Administrator that any Network Attached Storage (NAS) device on their network is configured correctly. There have been reports of these devices causing IP conflicts within a DHCP environment.
                    8.
Set to static IP Address with permission of customer.
                    9.
                    Disable SSDP protocol in WebImageMonitor.
                    10.
Disable all other unused protocols in WebImageMonitor with permission of customer.
                    11.
                    Replace Controller:
                    o
                    MPC2051: D106 5720
                    o

good post Paul. I put my money on SSDP... it has been a problem since the MP6001 series with SSDP port on.

I see they came out with new PCL firmware for the c5501.

I did my first call on 1/4/13 on one I installed last Feb. to delete some users from the address book. No Sc codes on the SMC. I went ahead & updated all the firmware & got a call on Monday (1/7) for Sc899. There were 6 cases on the SMC when I arrived.

I talked to Ricoh & they had me change the default PCL font. When I went back yesterday to update the PCL & Net Support firmware, there were no Sc899 codes listed since my last visit.

I have seen 2 of these last week. Mpc5501 trying to print a simple A3 booklet from indesign, straight out locks mc with 899. Convert to Pdf, all ok. Mpc 7501, a simple power point print job, throws sc899 at page 3 every time. Update all firmware, no difference, create Pdf - all ok now. This 899 crap is really poor and just shouldnt be happening. These jobs could be printed on a $30 inkjet from office works. Rant over...
