    MPC5000 Duplex Skew

Okay, single sided is okay. Only when duplex does it skew. Also when duplex copy it sounds like it is crunching the paper slightly down at the bottom of the duplex, just when it is feeding back out to machine to do second side. Took it all apart and everything seems fine. Machine has under 100k on it.

    Thanks for any help!

Sounds like you may have a broken plastic hinge mount on the transfer unit ???
It's usually the one to the rear of the copier.

I've had transport rollers on the rear of the Fuser unit give this, one end has normally popped out of place.

Inspect the open and close guide plate on the duplex door for warp due to the heat from fuser (partno: D0294592 ). If the guide plate looks decent then you're looking at tension roller spring is missing.

Remove the Transfer roller Housing assembly and check for any Foreign Objects stuck in the duplex exit section usually one of the small white plastic claws as fallen in there of of the guide plate.

Definitely check the pinch rollers, and the axles on these, to see if any are missing or popped out on one end. Then look for obstructions (something is dragging - or the drive forces are imbalanced).

Given it doesnt occur on the letter r size this is a big clue. Chase the path at the interface between these two sizes.

Finally check that the duplexer is engaged squarely.

Is the skew the same for all trays ?

Can it be something simple like a paper guide tab broken ?

Is the bottom lower paper door closing correctly ?

He stated "single side ran okay, only double sided causing the skew . " That pretty much eliminates the guide plate.......

check the tension pinch roller on the fusing unit for out of position. this will cause a skew when run duplex jobs.
