    SMTP server headaches/solutions

What do you guys use for a scan to email solution when there is no onsite smtp server, and a machine that is not new enough to use SSL? I am scratching my head on a particular client as they have migrated over to a ISP that requires SSL for all email communication, and I am wary of using an open SMTP server.

    Discuss.

I have a single xxx @Yahoo.com account that I've set up for just that. It doesn't Use encryption (although I believe the newer '@Rocketmail' extension does). There are others, but Yahoo works for me.
I just use smtp name (98.136.185.95), email address, User name, password, port 587, authentication ON. Done

To be honest, if the customer doesn't have an email solution - in house or ISP - (and even when they do) and if they don't have their own IT staff, I try to steer them towards FTP scanning.

"But I want to email the scans to our customers!"
"Another reason to scan to folder, ma'am! Then you can write a customized email for each scan, along with your signature, and then simply attach the PDF file!"
        "Ahn, good point!"

Now, with Dropbox, Google Drive, and others like it, you can scan to your Dropbox folder and have the scans magically appear on any computer you want, anywhere!
        ' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'
        Mascan42

'You will always find some Eskimo ready to instruct the Congolese on how to cope with heat waves.'

I'm just an ex-tech lurking around and spreading disinformation!

There is a piece of software called "Stunnel". I've never used it myself, but it takes an unencrypted email, and makes it look like an encrypted one. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Stunnel does work well with Gmail (maybe others as well). The limitation with it is that the pc it's installed on must be turned on for it to work

              does this still work?

I need to set up four different clients with this feature and have trouble doing it the macines are all ricoh mpc6000, mpc3300, mpc2330 and mpc2500 and mpc3000.

I have tried using my on email server info (from 3rd party host) smtp.xxxx.com with my username, email address, password but it still doesn't work. although I am still trying to find out the port numers being used so I can verify I have the correct ones assigned.

The post is only a week old. All I can say is that it works for me here in Canada. I have at least 20-30 machines configured this way.
Although it would be nice to have a little feedback from SargeNZ to see how he made out with the solutions offered

Ensure your custome is aware that thier company email is going through a 3rd party, unencrypted email host. If this is a legal or medical firm, that may be confidentiality/compliance issues that can bite YOU!

Stunnel does work well with Gmail. As said previously, the computer must be on all the time. See elsewhere in these forums for specific instructions.

Agreed, I was just talking about this to fellow employees here. I had two clients which I wouldn't do this method for. One, a lawyer, the other a doctor.
