    Ricoh mp 301spf

Hi, I could really use some help...I'm having a heck of a time with this brand new machine!!

Office was using it primarily as a network fax machine. Everything seemed to work except the sent fax confirmation page wouldn't print...even though parameter was set properly.

Other than that everything worked for about two days until received a fax memory full message. I checked the comm status button under the facsimile screen to find the "Print/delete fax" button so that I could clear the memory. All the buttons were there EXCEPT for the "Print/delete" button. The customer service folks said "interesting"....might need a software flash or a new fax board!!!!!!!!!!! Since it was purchased from another party....no warranty.

Anyone have an idea about how to fix this? Next step is to call in Ricoh service for unknown amounts of $$$$$$ Thanks

Start with the firmware upgrade. Then worry about the fax board.

I noticed on the Ricoh site that the upgrades seem to be all involving the print function. Is there a site or procedure for doing a firmware upgrade for the fax portion or is it call the Ricoh tech?

Thanks HP Guy...been studying it...figured out that I need to purchase/install remote communications
gateway s and then find a site that has the updated firmware...correct?

Something I've noticed about machines with fax capabilities is that they don't get shut off nearly often enough. That can cause some really weird problems, especially if weather or nearby construction has interfered with the local power. If you haven't tried it yet, you might want to turn the machine completely off, do something else for a few minutes, and then turn the machine on and see if that helps.

As far as a firmware upgrade, you need to have access to the tech portion of Ricoh's website to get that. Sounds like you are looking at the non-tech portion, which has every print driver you'll ever need, but no firmware is there. You might check the "Solutions" part of that site to see if there is, well, a solution there that would work. Or maybe the software section.

Thank you Iowatech! I will shut it off overnight and see if that helps...then get into the the tech portion!

It could be that the machine is set to forward inbound faxes to a folder or email, and if they can't go for any reason, they will pile up in memory.

If I remember correctly, the only way to clear those jobs is from the WIM (Web Image Monitor, or web page) on the machine.

Check that out, and if that's the case, then it would be a matter of turning off the forwarding.

I had this happen on a larger machine a few years ago. The forwarding was misconfigured, so the memory kept filling up.

Ken, your right, the machine IS set to forward to a network folder...but every fax has made it. The problem is that neither the touchpad nor the web image monitor has any button or option to delete a print job...it's just plain missing. Hoping that function of print/delete will appear in the morning after I've let it sit unplugged overnight. Maybe hoping for too much! Again, thanks for the input!

                  OK, that's progress.

It could be even though forwarding is working, a switch needs to be set to delete the fax after it is forwarded. (Sounds stupid, I know.)

I'll see if I can find anything on that. In the meantime, try turning off the forwarding and see if the problem remains.

Ken, I'll do that first thing in the morning. (I did notice that it has kept every fax in the machine memory event though they were forwarded!) Appreciate all the assistance. I'll let you know how it works out.

I understand this is an old thread, but I am having an issue with a newer Ricoh, MPC6004 with the fax memory filling up. It is set to forward to a network folder, and the faxes do go through with no problems, but it is filling up the memory anyway. The "Store" setting is Off, under the Reception file settings. Can anyone help? Is there a softswitch that needs to be set? It seems like it stores the faxes regardless of what the machine is being told what to do.

                        Thanks in advance!

Had this same thing happen on a MP 2501 which was set to forward. Forward went thru, but memory continued to fill. There is a parameter setting in the 2501 switch 45, Bit 3 . Needs to be set to 1: do not print or store. That did not resolve it and I performed a memory clear ON THE FAX ONLY. And this solved it. No more faxes storing.

Thank you for the added direction. Do you remember what service mode the fax memory is? We are new to Ricoh, so I'm still trying to figure them out. Thanks again! I have done an SRAM clear, and that should have taken care of the problem, but it didn't.

Nah that's an end user accessible setting. I don't have the exact instruction in mind but it should be explained in the (unfortunately poorly written) user manuals.
