    Color Shift MP C2800

    Hello everyone,

I'm having this MP C2800 with color registration problems. The CMY-colors are moved half a mm to the right (Sub Scan-direction). When I do Line Positioning Adjustment (SP2-111-003 and SP2-111-001) the machine says 'Completed' in both SP's, which is very strange because the machine should give 'Failed' when the colors are this far off. After Line Positioning Adjustment, when I print a test page (Printer SP1-103-002) I see no improvement. Density is ok, but I get the same color shift. The machine gives no SC's and all adjustment results are ok.

I can adjust the CMY-colors with SP2-101-001/008 (Color Registration Correction). Then the test page is ok, but when the machine starts to do a Line Positioning Adjustment the color shift is back.

I allready replaced the Transfer Belt Assy, ID-sensor Assy and Laser Unit, but no result. Black PCU has done 70k, Color PCU's 26k.

I'm thinking of a Black PCU-Motor and/or a BICU-Board, but maybe someone has this problem before and has found a solution.

    Thanks

Do you still have the birth certificate? Check the values for registration and alignment against it, see what's gone astray. That might lead you to what's causing the issue. When you've re-input them, run 2111, a forced process control, then ACC it. If the values wander again, firmware or possibly a corrupt nvram?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Birth certificate is present. Can try to input all values again. Firmware is up to the latest version. Corrupt NVRAM could indeed also be an option, because the machine says 'Completed' instead of 'Failed'.

Yesterday I visited the customer with a Ricoh Field Specialist and even this guy didn't knew what to do.

          Thanks

I have had this twice each was a different problem. The first time I had it the colors would align and work fine for a day next day they were all off again, after fighting it long and hard I found it was nvram because it would stay aligned until they shut the machine off at the end of the day when they rebooted it lost everything and would be all out of alignment again.

Second time was much simpler i found that a brand new pcu with only 1600 pages on it was not turning very well, it was dragging, this was easier to diagnose because only that color was way off, after replacing the pcu it was fine.

TonerMunkeh also mentioned a defective NVRAM. Next monday I'm going back with a Ricoh Specialist and he has ordered a BICU-board, NVRAM, Drum Motor for Black PCU. We'll see...

Are the ID sensors clean? They are the sensors used in the line position adjustment after all.

I must be old fashioned, but why is replacing boards always the answer? The black image is surely the reference, the colours follow that? Maybe you have a colour pcu/dev dragging the colours out of sync. How about attaching an image for us to see.

                    Cheers

                      Hi Eric.

I also had this problem before and on my machines (2) i replaced the nvrams and that solved the problem. How i discovered that is when i did all necessary adjustments and rebooted the machines, the values were out.

                      Hope that helps!

                        Re: Color Shift MP C2800

                        Problem solved today!

Went to customer with Ricoh Field Specialist. He has compared all settings with another good working machine. He came up with this setting :

SP2-920-001 Transfer Motor Control (Selects the speed control mode for the Transfer Belt).

Default setting is 0 (Encoder). In the problem machine this value was 1 (FG). We changed it to 0, did all adjustments and the print was ok.
To make sure this setting was causing the color drift, we changed it back to 1, and the problems returned. Changed it again to 0 and all problems were gone. The manual mentions very little about this SP, only to change it to 1 when SC443 occurs.

The Ricoh technician is going to make a report about this.

                        Thanks everyone for the replies!
