I believe that it can only be changed once, and then your stuck with it. SP 5045-001, set to "1"

From what I can understand this is correct. Any idea why you can only change it once though?

The way I understand it, the total copy counter is kind of considered by the legal community in the same fashion as an odometer in a car, and big trouble can occur if you change it for inappropriate reasons.
So there's one chance to change it while setting up a machine, then it's done.
At least that was what I was told.

not sure about this model but a ricoh rep can change this through a special sp on certain models, I have seen this done on a 3260C back and forth but don't remember the special sp code

I accidentally changed an MPC5502 to developments while taking off A3 double click and I changed it back with no problem

I did this too. I didn't reset the machine before changing it back though. It may only 'stick' on reset.

As a side note, you can install mechanical meters as an option. They mount behind the cover at the rear side of the fuser by the fuser ps.

As a side note: If you go to User Tools, System Settings, Administrator Tools, Display/Print Counters every machine I have worked on always prints pages not developments. It also give you scanning totals for FAX, email, and folders. This can be nice to know if you have a customer using the ADF for scanning more than for copying.
