[CQ] MPC3502 Scanning Issue

I have a scanning issue with the new MPC3502 MFP's:

• Scanning 8.5 x 11 originals through the ADF is ok
• Scanning 8.5 x 11 originals on the main scan glass with the ADF cover up is ok
• Scanning 8.5 x 11 originals on the main scan glass with the ADF cover down cuts off the image
• The issue is intermittent

What I've done:

• Replaced the ADF platen cover sensor
• Replace the ADF controller board
• Updated all the firmware

I would be looking at the scan size sensors within the flatbed.

What happens when you scan the same document in a different orientation. Can you provide examples?

A different orientation I believed did make a difference. I don't have any examples I can upload at this point.

I have seen a similar issue when copying. Size sensor for width is actually done by the IPU. I there is a large black or very dark area on the edge of the original that is against the width scale and toward the operator, it can read the width as the edge of the dark area. c
Changing the orientation of the original on the glass, put the dark area away from the scale, should correct the problem.

I can try that Slimslob, but my only concern is that there isn't a dark area and the original is 8.5 x 11

I think there's a sp available for testing the paper size recognition - you might check what result it display. If the issue is connected to df open/close situation you might check the df open/close sensor (most ricoh midrange machines are using two sensors - one that detects that the df is fully closed and another detecting the "almost close" condition -> triggering the size detection). I've seen faulty sensors/actuators causing quite related problems.

Could be doc hinges are miss up causing doc feeder to lift up just as it is almost down. This can cause sensors to read wrong paper size. You can watch hinges as you are closing and you might see it kind of jump back up.
