[Misc] Windows 8: Scan to smb ricoh mpc 3000... Has anyone tried disabling smb 2 and smb 3

I know that you need to upgrade the firmware for the ricoh mpc 3000 to scan to smb to work on windows 8 but I am curious if anyone has tried disabling the smb 2 and smb 3 protocols... and then tried scanning to smb...

Here is the link for the upgrade to the newer firmware

but here is the link also for the disabling of the smb 2 and smb 3 protocol

In other words do you absolutely need to upgrade the firmware... or can disabling the smb 2 and smb 3 protocols work just as good...

can someone test and post a reply...

I've gotta ask. Why don't you test and tell the rest of us what you find?

If you're dealing with any kind of domain, this setting is more than likely going to be on a domain controller. Most of my customers (except for the ones that we support their networks as well) really don't like having their DC messed with too much. For workgroups you may be able to change it back to the lower level of SMB, but you're going to have to disclose to the customer that this does lower their security profile as these use much lower hashes for password encryption.

I don't have a windows 8 machine quite yet... and its something that I deal with sporadically... thought it would be a good point to ask a question about...

actually I am only concerned about getting it working on windows 8 machine in a workgroup... I have been told that short of the firmware... windows 8 does not support scanning...

Have you tried setting up scan to Ftp?

I managed to use WSD in windows 8, it set it up in the printers section.
