    [CQ] Colour Printing is 'off' - Ricoh MPC4502 / MPC5502 & Office 2010

    Hi,
i have had a customer complain about when they are printing to their new Ricoh MPC4502 from MS Office 2010 some of the colours are off.

Eg, they might have a Green banner across the top which is close (yes i say close, not a spot colour) to their Logo but when they print it on the new Ricoh the green comes out Blue. Whereas their old Ricoh printed it ok.

I have had this a while back with a large bank as well, but i cannot for the life of me remember what the fix was, i think in the end, we got them to save to PDF and then print as it wasnt something they are modifying all the time.

    Any suggestions?

Make sure they are doing regular ACCs and using good quality paper. If the colours are still off then the images they are printing could have an embedded RGB profile, as the machine is CMYK a coversion has to take place; which means a loss of colour.

I love it when people assume that their monitor is the gold standard for colour reproduction.

Ruben and Sarge both make good, valid points.

You may be able to improve colour matching by by downloading the ICM files for the MFD. Extract the downloaded file and install them both, then associate both the profiles to the to the Print queue for the MP C4502.
Set the RGB profile to manual if the majority of printing is from from MS applications or CMYK if its Adobe/PS3. If there is a mixture set the colour management to Automatic.
In the print driver there is usually a 'Use ICM' check box in the colour section of the print quality tab in printing preferences/printing defaults. (Depending of flavour of driver being used) Tick the box and give it a try.

Another thing to check is that they didn't download the Fiery driver by mistake. Sounds silly I know, but I've run into this quite a few times lately. For some reason Ricoh puts the Fiery driver first on their website and IT selects it because the (e5300) behind the model name doesn't mean anything to them. Actually I was surprised that it even worked. One thing that it does is drastically change the color, which is what I've gotten follow-up calls about.

Better they put the fiery drivers on machine's download page than having to hunt all over the place for it like some OEMs make you do.

As daft as it sounds, try winding the driver back, or reinstalling a PCL5C or try the universal print. The conversion profiles are different in the later drivers no matter what you do. Try a very early colour driver and check the difference. Use a spare pc to experiment.
Also make sure the paper your printing your ACC is white and not buff.
