Close call on a MPC3500

Was setting up a MPC3500 today and found out that the CMYK toners from the MPC2000/2500/3000 also fit directly.

Took the MPC3500 toner over to a MPC2500 and only 2 of the 4 fit.

If I had not caught it I would think this is a headache waiting to happen.

Will have to compare toner specs to see what is different.

Anybody else run across this?

other than the size of the bottles being different. The toner it self is the same. They use the same Dev. between the machines

Actually I have both next to me and they are the same diameter. The only difference is the cutout keys on the ends and the color of bottle end. Black on the 2000/2500/3000 and Brown for the 3500/4500.

The MP C3000A Toners may be used on the MP C3500/MP C4500 copiers.
The reverse is not true, however.

Also, be aware the bottles are different in weight. MP C3000A K toner is 450gm and CYM toners are 360gm. The MP C4500A K toner is 510gm and CYM toners are 400gm.

The 3000A K toner has a better price break (even with the different weight) than the 4500A K toner.

Here's another kicker... Once you install the toner into an operational machine, it is basically married to it, and cannot be re-installed in another machine, and will cause an error message if you try.

Also don't think the toner bottle from the printer version of this engine is the same. It's a shorter bottle, same toner though.

This is because of the RFID chip on the end of the bottle. This contains a serial / lot# and such for that bottle of toner and is stored in the machine. This was covered in our class on this model.

So each bottle has it's own SN#? What if you have a bottle with a problem how would you reset SN#? Is there a SP mode that allows you to clear the data?

Unfortunately, you cannot exchange them with the other model because of different toner specification and the ID chip at the toner bottle.
The machine will not detect the toner bottle of the other model.

Well, knock on wood, I haven't had a problem with a bottle that did not send the machine into an add toner condition. So I don't know, but I will look though.
