[Electrical] Ricoh MPC 4502A-problem with optic sensor

I have a problem with Ricoh MPC 4502. When I copy something on exposure glass with ARDF open,then the copy format is OK and optic sensors can properly read the original format. when the ARDF is closed (it doesn't mather wheather the ARDF i switch off or on) the copier always read the original format as A3 and automaticaly feed paper from A3 paper tray only. We try to change optics sensor's but we have the same result. How can we solve this problem?

Use the input checks to check the accuracy and alignment of the sensors.

Try disconnect ARDF cable then test the operation.

A3 size is the only one that uses all 5 of the width and all 3 of the length sensors in the DF. Either one of the eight is shorted or defective. Use the input checks.

Check the furthest right width sensor (next to the scanner block), could we loose or faulty. Also, check that the cover under the DF is affixed properly to its velcro.

Also make sure that the platen sensor on the back frame on the scanner unit is getting actuated by the DF cover. This might make the machine scan the whole platen and then choose A3.

This is something I've run across before, too. Sometimes the actuator gets broken or a paper clip can get in there and hink it up. The MFP still thinks the platen is up.

To add to the last two posts, when things are working correctly, when closing the ADF the machine detects the paper size when the ADF is around thirty degrees from being closed so the sensors only detect your original. If the machine doesn't detect that the document feeder is closed, it waits until you press the start button to detect the paper size, and in this case the sensors will sense the white sheet on the bottom of the ADF and will select the size closest to that.

Together with kopirmaster we tryed everything (we changed all sensors,changed all firmware's on the copier, tryed without ARDF, only with platen, tryed to disconect actuator) and always the same result- when you put only original on the glass the format is OK...but when you put something over the original the sensors read as A3 format and we can't avoid that. Does someone have an idea?...

Yes, whatever you put over the original (platen cover, ADF or any cover A3 or larger) the result bis the same. Machine is working onlu if you put original on the glass without a cover
