    Ricoh MPC7500 - Error SC534 and Error 670

    Hello!

We have a Ricoh Aficio MPC7500 that we purchased at auction. Recently we had a problem with blue streaks on all pages whenever we printed in color. Right before the service technician came out we received Error SC534. We powered down the machine as instructed but still we received this error. When the service technician arrived he indicated that there was also a second hidden error (Error SC670).

The technician stated the first error was a duplexer fan error - the fans run properly (he could start the fans from the diagnostics) but the system is seeing a "fan motor seized" fault and thinks there is a problem with the fans. The technician's diagnosis was that there was probably a blown capacitor and the VBCU should be replaced.

The technician asked if we had lost power (we had not, at least not as far as we where aware). My question is this: would it be of any benefit for us to try updating the firmware on the VBCU before we go into the expense of replacing it? Also, any other suggestion/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

I'd suggest that updating the firmware will solve nothing, but should the technician replace the board and not fix the fault then I assume that you won't be charged for it?

Additionally, there are 3 fuses on the VBCU board that can cause SC670 errors, in the top left hand corner. You can meter across these to check continuity and they are available as spare parts, however the downside to this is that they need to be soldered onto the board. Additionally, you can meter at 3 points beside these fuses to check the 5v, 12v and 24v inputs to the board. Obviously when I say "you" I really mean "a trained technician".

Finally, there's every chance that something pulled the VBCU board down. It could be the fan, and I did have a dreadful fault on one of these with a broken wire in the harness that includes the duplex fans, but it could be a multitude of other things. The last time I had it, it was the sensor actuator underneath the fuser unit that had come loose, knocked off the photo-interruptor and then shorted against it.

As the VBCU board is literally hundreds of pounds, I'd start to be quite worried if I were you!

I've attached the diagram that explains about the fuses and metering points.

The Godly Llama is bang on. Also, get an all-inclusive service contract as soon as possible. The MPC7500 is the most labour intensive machine I've ever worked on and if they decide to shit the bed, they do it right. If you can't afford a contract such as that, get rid of the machine.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

        Hit it.

The lack of feedback from the OPs on here is simply woeful. I might stop wasting my time.

Thank you both so very much for taking the time to respond. I greatly appreciate your input and comments.

I asked the service company for a quote to get the machine up to a point where it would be covered under a service agreement. Once we have all the information on cost to repair we will make a decision on whether or not to keep the machine.

            Thanks again!

Thank you for the diagram you provided. My boss asked me to find out at which point on each fuse you identified (TP3, TP7, and TP10) would you place the voltmeter?

Thank you for you all your time and assistance!

The Llama god and Tonermunkeh are dead on ! But your asking where to attach the meter, Let the trained tech do this, It's not advisable for someone that has no experiance at this to try it....Bad things can happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Push it off a cliff would be my advice with this piece of turd.
As previous posts state they are labour and part's hungry, unreliable due to toner dropping, overtoning etc....
You should have got anything under the mpc6500 range.... (2500, 3000, 3500, 4500 and so on).
