Ricoh Aficio 2238C w/ Macs... Please Help

hey guys im new here but i hope u guys can help me with a problem i have

i have a Ricoh Aficio 2238C at work and we are mostly a mac based company... the problem is that i cant seem to get it set up on the network... the appletalk is enabled however i cant find it when i go and try to add a new printer on the macs. i can however see the other HP black and white printer on my mac.
the printer is fully functional because we have a pc that is able to print from it and it is intalled on the pc.
if anyone would help me with this problem i would greatly appreciate it. thanx in advance!!

a PS card? im sorry im not familiar with printers

i tried adding it via IP but it just printed out a bunch of rubbish
any thoughts?

OK that it. You need a post script card, it looks like a laptop memory card, and it´s a option on that machine you´ll have to bye one to be able to print on your Macs " An apple a day keeps windows away" hehehe

oh ok... so i should be able to get it (PS card) on the manufacturers website? and it should be installed on the printer itself?

Sorry I said it looked like a memory card but I was wrong,that was for the 1224, on this machine its a SD card with build in post script functions. the basics is the same.

Most certainly this option will only be available at a ricoh dealer, once you got the option theres a little lid fixed with one screw near to the RJ45 terminal. open it and just plug in the SD card until it clicks, its installed in the third slot it will be the one nearest to the RJ45, Remember this operation must be done with the machine unplugged from the wall let. turn on the machine and you back in business.

hmmm i see the 3 SD slots, the first one is used by a Printer and Sacnner SD card that was already in tehre but the other 2 are free. so i guess i'll have to call ricoh to see if they have a different mac compatiable version.

But seriously. After you install the PS card, you'll need to download and run the PS installer (if you have 10.1) then choose the printer.

There is also a firmware resolution for this.

Device is not displayed in the MAC Chooser using Apple Talk as a printer port.


Unlike the PostScript, this is a service issue as opposed to a sales issue... That may allow you to actually see the device until the PS is installed.

If you dont want to ad the postscript you can use your pc as the printer server and just run all print jobs to it. The ps chip is going to be about $1000 from a ricoh dealer, but I can find you one for about half that if you are interested.

all replies about PS3 SD are correct but if you don't mind speed or some little problem you can use GIMP PS driver for MAC.

But i will also post a question to those experts who replied to this post.

I have the same machine (nashua branded DSC445) with PS sd card installed. Type 2238.
This card looks damaged or corrupted....infact if I try to print with a Mac with PS installed after some kbyte (188 kb often) the machine Hangs and the lcd panel locks. I can only turn off the machine.

Moving the card to a different machine the problem moves too.... so we all think that the problem is into the SD CARD.

Does anybody know whether i'ts possible to check the card, copy datas into a new card, or request the substitution of the SD without buying again the PS "licence".... It's like buying "MS Office" and rebuy it if the CD broke up. Ricoh Italy says I must buy another card (1.650 euros) but I am astonished..,.

Legally you cant copy the PS to another card. But given the choice and if were my money I would copy the program to another SD card and go from there. Its more likely the card than the program.
I've never heard of this happening.
But Vince, you are a dealer, what does your DSM say about this?
