    2232c two-tray finisher persistent jam

I have a 2232c with the two-tray finisher and it jams 100% of the time when paper is sent to the finisher, top tray or into the stapler. Always shows code j100. Paper remains either under the top cover (sometimes just sticking out at the top tray) or at R2 (if sent to the stapler). Happens with a single page job, or after the first page of a multiple-page job.

Exit mylars look good, everything wiped down, and machine runs fine without the finisher. The problem must be in the finisher, but I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    Suggestion, replace finisher.

      Yeah. Trying to avoid that.

Besides, it's in great condition. Besides the bit about not working...

Check the finisher entry sensor. J100 is a finisher entrance jam.

Well what you have there is a old machine and finisher. These finishers however where reliable (in my opinion) and I USED to see 100's of them.
The fact that it does it everytime is very handy. Iwish all jamming was like this. I cant help you much other than to say that I would be looking for shafts not turning, sensors not working (use IN OUT Checks). I have had to replace a number of the one way drive gears on the rear frame of these finishers as these start slipping and cause jams - however this is more of an intermittent issue. What are the output destination settings in user tools? Is the gate swinging?

Totally agreed with Turbo. On top of that I would recommend cheating the cover door and watch the movement of the paper when it arrive at the jam destination.

Re: 2232c two-tray finisher persistent jam

Thanks for all the tips. More troubleshooting shows that the finisher exit wheels (above the trays) don't turn (they can be turned manually). Both share a motor on the back side of the unit. Nothing seems out of place, so it either just died or isn't getting power from the control board. Anyone know how to test? Anyone know the part number? I don't have the SM for the finisher.

Alternatively, anyone in NC interested in an otherwise functional finisher at a low price?

SM for the finisher is part of the SM for 2232c. Dip switch DPS101 on the finisher control board, turn off copier, turn 1,2, and 3 of DPS101, turn copier back on to put finisher in free run no paper feed. If motor and belt between motor and lower exit roller turn but not the roller, replace the belt pulley on the roller shaft. If pulley on motor turns but belt does not, replace belt. If the motor does not turn, check the leads going to the motor with your volt meter or an oscilloscope. No signal it is probably the board. Signal it is probably the motor.

Accessory B599 part catalog for the part numbers.

                    Fantastic! Thanks!!

My SM is incomplete [fuming] [drinking to dampen fumes] [still fuming].

                    More to follow.

Flipped the switches to put the finisher in free run mode. Everything works. Tried running a job through the finisher, works perfectly on all functions.

                      Gremlins in this machine!

Thanks to all who replied, and extra kudos to slimslob.

Check if the gate solenoids are working properly in SIM mode (group6). Also the gate itself may be damaged.
